Teva Vail Trail Running Races

Overcast
Total Time = 2h 22m 36s
Overall Rank = 104/221
Age Group = 20-29
Age Group Rank = 5/19
Pre-race routine:

Partied more than I should have Saturday, good thing that we went out early so went to bed fairly early.
Got up at 5:30, drove up to Vail, had some coffee, 24oz gatorade, one starbucks cookie - did not eat enough
Event warmup:

since I only had about 20 min till start when I got to Vail, ran to the start/registration area - about 5 min easy
Run
  • 2h 22m 36s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 10m 53s  min/mile
Comments:

went off slow, just kept my pace, had to walk parts of miles 4-7.
that uphill is brutal. I felt a little lightheaded at one moment (maybe because I didn't eat anything?)
sped up at the end of mile 7 - started passing many people on rolling hills and downhill (one guy called me "an animal", I told him - "yes, only a downhill kind"), fell about 1/2 mile from finish, not too bad
What would you do differently?:

not drink as much the night before, get more sleep, eat breakfast
Post race
Warm down:

cleaned up my knee with some peroxide
ate bananas and oranges, drank tons of water
had a pasta lunch

What limited your ability to perform faster:

1. not enough hill training this season
2. lack of sleep and food > lack of energy to power uphills

Event comments:

love trail running! (the downhill part)

Your not a want-a-be! Your the real thing... your accomplishments just keep piling up. You have yet to run your best race - when you do, I'll be in trouble!
