Comments: The was my first ever foot race so I was a little nervous about what to expect but really excited because I knew I could do this distance and do it well. Having only raced in Tri's, it was a little weird seeing 90% of the people with Ipods. I lined up about 3/4 of the way back because I figured that's where I'd finish at. It was kind of funny how nearly all 300 people started running at 9min/miles. It was 10-20mins before the crowd really separated. I couldn't believe I saw people walking 2miles in... did they not know how far a HM was? After a few miles in I started making my move. Pace didn't change much but I'd run to a person that was ahead of me and run beside them for a minute. Then, it was off to the next person. Because it was so cold and rainy, I didn't drink much water. Around mile 8 or 9 I started dumping the fuel belt bottles I knew I wouldn't need to finish. I really started pushing it with 2miles left and was doing ok. Then there was a good sized hill on the last .5 mile. That hill hurt! Heart, lungs, and calves were on fire as I tried desperately not to drop my pace. I survived and couldn't be happier with my time. 1 @ 08:37 2 @ 08:44 3 @ 08:42 4 @ 08:50 5 @ 08:42 6 @ 08:33 7 @ 08:26 8 @ 08:41 9 @ 08:25 10 @ 08:13 11 @ 08:11 12 @ 07:54 13 @ 07:26 What would you do differently?: Can't think of anything. Got up at 2:45am and had a bagel and waffles. Got there around 6:30 and got my chip and number. It was cold and rainy and windy and I was actually a little excited about it. My last long run was in the POURING rain and brisk wind and I did really well with it so a little mist would be nothing.
Just ran halfway around the stadium and back twice. 5min 'til I handed my jacket to my parents and headed to the line. I couldn't believe how many people were running with long sleeves, jackets, raincoats and plastic bags. At the 1mile mark, nearly everybody was taking them off.
