Pre-race routine:

Drove the my brother's house on Saturday night after the kids were in bed since he lives 5 miles from the race course. Woke up at 5:30 and got moving. Hit the fake WaWa on Route 9 for coffee and a granola bar on the way to the race. It was pitch black and blowing about 25 MPH when I arrived...I knew it would be an interesting day.
Event warmup:

Just set up transition and get into my wetsuit.
Swim
  • 12m 53s
  • 536 meters
  • 02m 24s / 100 meters
Transition 1
  • 03m 34s
Comments:

Tried to get my HR down after the tough swim. Saw my brother and 2 nephews so I chatted with them as I got the wetsuit off and my bike shirt on. Took it pretty slow.
Bike
  • 44m 1s
  • 10 miles
  • 13.63 mile/hr
Comments:

Bike was tough as the wind was mostly a headwind for the 'out' portion. I just tried to take it slow and stay aero as much as possible. The way back was nice with the tailwind.
Transition 2
  • 01m 35s
Run
  • 34m 20s
  • 3.05 miles
  • 11m 16s  min/mile
Comments:

My goal was to run the entire way with no walking. Just kept a nice easy pace and maintained it throughout.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

This was my first race in two years. Just need to get back to training consistently. Considering my lack of training volume and crazy schedule I was happy with the results.

Event comments:

Great to sneak in a race before the end of the season. It was nice to race on a course where I spent so my time as a kid. The Barnegat Bay is a truly beautiful location. Great having my brother and nephews there for support. Feels good to get back into racing.

Well that was a bit tougher than expected with that wind, huh? Great job out there!
