Subject: Moving to Somerville
So in a month I'll be moving from Watertown to Somerville; it was a tough decision because while I'm going from a 5 bedroom apt. to a 1 bed that's much nicer, my work commute is now much longer and training will be tougher.

That in mind: if anyone lives in the area I'd love to hear about where I might find decent riding.  The new place is right by Porter Square and for the life of me I can't think of any good spots to ride.  The best I could come up with is taking the Minuteman up to Lexington/Concord and doing my rides up there, but that trail can be real bad for someone doing 18-20+ on the bike.  Any help?  Thanks in advance!

I live in Bedford, where the bike path ends, and there are tons of great rides that start near the end of the bike path. The bike path can get a bit like a zoo, especially on the weekends or at lunch time, as people like to walk on their break. Often those walkers like to take up the whole path and are quite oblivious to bikers. If Iuse a loud voice I can always move someone rather quickly.

The roads definitely get less congested the further out you go on the bike path, but there are some decent rides around Belmont (where I used to live) as well.

I'm sure others will have good thoughts also. At least you're close to Ana's Taqueria in Porter!

Hi- I live in Davis Square, and most of my rides either go up the bikepath to Lexington/Concord, or up Concord Ave/Trapelo to Lexington/Concord.  There are just so many good rides out that way.

My best advice for the bikepath is to go early, before all the kids and rollerbladers get out.  You can also shoot up Mass Ave and avoid the bikepath, but again, I would advise going earlier to avoid some of the traffic that can develop.

Cool, thanks guys.  That's pretty much what I figured, I just wasn't sure if there might be good riding north into the Fells area.  Oh well, bike path and Mass Ave it is then!  I'd love to hear if people have any other suggestions, too.
