I think less likely this year, though. Since it's going to be part of the new 5150 series, they'll probably go with the new WTC temperature standard of 76.1°. Additionally the race is a week later than usual to avoid Easter weekend. It may be tough for them to find a shady spot that cool, no matter how hard they look.

Thinking of doing this race this year for the first time.  Registration opens in Dec, does it sell out quickly?  Any advice?
Thanks

YES! Get up early (or stay up late) to get signed up for the race the day registration opens. I am always on the computer at 8:55 am on Dec 1st and I know I have LOTS of company at that time Smile

But well worth it. This is one of my all time favorite races. Great expo, well managed race, good scenic route for the most part. The only downfall is the long wait for your wave to start and the other long wait to get your bike out of transition. Other than that I can't say enough good things about St Anthony's! Have fun!!!

Will it be the same???Will it be the same RD?  I hope with the new series they contuine to use some of the great local talent to manage the race's.  Last year at St.A's was my 1st tri and I plan on doing next year and setting an PR(which really shouldnt be too hard considering ....)

This is a fantastic race.  Lived in FL for years and have done this for the last 4.  I now live in TN so my St. A's will be few and far between, but I highly reccomend it if you want a big, well run race experience on an amzingly fun course.  The swim is challenging and unpredictable, the bike just kicks butt and is such a blast and the run is scenic and flat, but HOT...  I highly doubt it will be wetsuit legal by May, but it will be super, super, super hot by the time you run.

I would not worry too much about the race leadership changing, not a big coincidence that the St. A's race director is named Philip LaHaye and the Director of Social Media for WTC (Ironman) is named Blair LaHaye... (husband/wife).  The race management has overlapped for St. A's and Clearwater 70.3 Worlds since they brought that race to Clearwater (and until they take it away in 2011).  St. A's and WTC has been joined at the hip for years, Steve Meckfessel (COO of WTC) was the RD for St. A's for years.  I really think this is all a good thing for St. A's,  Philip puts on a great race and WTC has the dough to make it better assuming they do not jack the entry fees...  Wish it fit into my schedule and travel budget this year!

PS - It should be open season to b!tch slap any person sporting an i-dot tattoo after any of these 5i50 races... just sayin'...

3 years ago it sold out in 8 hours.  2 years ago it sold out in 2-3 days.  Last year it took almost a week.

Still I'd suggest registering soon after it opens.

I am in again this year.  Was a great race last year except for the swim.  The water was choppy by the time my wave went off.  They cut the swim short two waves after mine.  Great race!  Highly recommend it.

I see the website got updated and thr price will be $160 this year.  Was it $150 last year?  I get a free comp code so Im not really sure what the fee was.  At least its not $250 like some were speculating on the boards here.

they have updated the site and posted Athlete Info.  Wetsuits for 78 and under, just like last year.

WETSUITS: The use of wetsuits during the swim will be allowed if the water temperature on race morning is 78.0 degrees or less.  If the water temperature exceeds 78.0 degrees but is less than 84.0 degrees, an athlete may wear a wetsuit but will be ineligible for awards and USAT national ranking points.  A water temperature measurement will be conducted on Saturday to forecast the likely water temperature on race day and the likelihood of whether wetsuits will be allowed

I also thought it was a great race, learned a lot from mistakes too. Frown like 2 penalties costing me 6:00

bcooper:  We must have gone on the same wave.  One of the 40-45s  I think I was wearing an orange cap (bib # 1102).  That was a rough swim for us... my last 500 m took longer than the first 1000 m - Wowzer!

Dual registered on Saturday so I'm in. Last year Escape Ft. DeSoto was two weeks before St. A, and that was my first tri. St. A was my second. I had a blast. I didn't think the swim was bad. It was rough, but it just didn't bother me. The whole outside stretch was like body surfing. I did get kicked in the face half way through the swim and that sucked bad, but as far as water conditions go I didn't care about the waves. I race 40-44 also. I had a purple cap this year. I can't wait till May. It's going to be a crazy month. May 1st, St. Anthony's. May 8th, Muddy Buddy. May 15th Florida HIM 70.3. May 21st Florida State BMX championships. Now all I have to do is find an event for May 28th or 29th and I'll be set. Jay

Yea, it's crazy.  I just "can't" miss any of those events.  And there is a sprint tri at Crystal River on the 28th...  hmmm....  DOH!  Fish

I can't recomend St. Anthony's enough though.  Some people questioned (slightly) my decision to do it as my second tri, but I'm really glad I did it.  And I can't wait to do it again.  This time it will be the warm up for the main event instead of the main event though.  My heart rate is up just thinking about it.

New to the swim bike run thing as I've never been into sports. First race this year at Ft. DeSoto in St. Pete a little Sprint, really liked it so i figured why not do the St Anthony's race?  I think  I need to TRAIN!  The swim was tough!

I'm in.  It will be my second time doing this race, although the first time the swim was canceled due to rough conditions.  I am hoping to swim this time.

I'm in, but a little bit unhappy at the unavailability of rooms at the sponsor hotels. Nothing left at the Vinoy or Courtyard at 10:30 yesterday morning - I had tried to register at the Vinoy earlier in November and couldn't get a room then either. If there are no rooms, why list it?

Still, a fantastic race - looking forward to doing it again!
