Subject: Revolution3 Full Distance : Official Thread

I'm starting the thread because this is our goal race for 2011. This will be my wife and I's first full iron, after doing Timberman 70.3 in 2010. We're going to do Mooseman 70.3 in June as part of our prep for this race.

We chose this race because though we live in Boston now, I grew up just over an hour from Cedar Point, and we lived in Ohio until just over a year ago. I've been to the park many times, but not in several years. After reading all the race reports, and hearing positive things about the Rev3 race held closer to us (in Quassy, CT), we decided this is an ideal first IM for us.

Woot! Thanks for breaking the ice!

This will be my first 140.6 as well. I am stationed up at Elmendorf AFB which is by Anchorage, AK. Needless to say, it gets cold for a long time. But, long distance cycling and running is very adventurous!

I grew up in the Detroit area, so Cedar Point was always the place to go; I really look forward to this race!

I am one month out from finishing the Rev3 for my first 140.6.  The event was awesome.  I loved it.  The Cleveland Tri Club will host some course preview days next summer.  I will be doing the half next year and the goal is to break 5 hrs.

We're pretty psyched too. It seems like it will be a lot of fun, and a location I know somewhat well enough to feel good about doing my first IM there.

deciding between this and Redman for my 1st full IM...anyone know if they are predicting this to get sold out? (#1 reason for NOT doing a branded IM is because I hate gambling that much money on something SO far ahead of time)

I don't think they sold out last year. If they did, it wasn't until the week of the race.

I did the HIM at Cedar Point. Neither the 1/2 or the full sold out. It was the 1st year so that could be different for 2011.

Side note: Very well run event. The swim in Lake Erie can be tough depending on the wind. On the practice swim the day before the race I was questioning what I had gotten myself into. Thankfully the wind direction changed during the night and race day wasn't as bad. If you are a strong swimmer and the chance of big waves don't bother you, then no big deal. Just some info on the race for you to consider.

They are definitely anticipating more participants this year and I think it will sell out, but not until sometime into 2011. My wife and I are probably going the charity route for this one, assuming that doesnt leave us out of the finisher gear (WTC charity entries sometimes do). I was told they'd have the charity stuff together by mid-november, and that would still be plenty of time before registration closed if we opted not to go that route.

one other thing to note. They are currently offering a discount on purchase price for the first 2 months of entry.

Looks like I've decided on Rev3 for my first full IM. I haven't even paid, and I've got this nervous feeling in my stomach!

I plan on doing Racing 4 Recovery HIM in June as well.

I'm on the fence.  I really want to try a full IM but I want to be faster first so I won't be out there all day.  I have already scheduled my first attempt at a marathon on May 1st.  That will help me make the decision.  If I can get through the run, I will be confident in the rest.  The swim and the bike don't scare me... I just don't want to walk 26 miles.  Laughing

I hope you decide to race it! It would be cool to meet another triathlete/conservative-libertarian in person!

Call me crazy (everyone at the office does).  I have never done any triathlon or endurance event, yet I am currently on a training plan to complete my first Half Ironman on June 19, 2011 in Effingham, Il and then onto the Rev 3 Full in Sandusky on Sept 11, 2011.

I am currently going through the P90X program for the 3rd time.  This past summer, I started on a 20 week Half Ironman training plan (was going to race in Tempe on Oct 24).  Had to end it abruptly when I was given 3 weeks to move cross country.  On top of P90X, I am also swimming 3 days per week, about a mile a day.  Once I finish my Corporate Finance class (sunday after thanksgiving), I will have time to jump on the bike trainer in the evenings.  If the weather stays relatively warm, I will add in a couple outdoor runs each week as well.  I just moved from the desert to Chicago, so adjusting to the weather has been.... let's just call it interesting!

Ambition never killed anyone!

I did the half in effingham last year, its hard not for the course or distance but the heat, humid and 95. So if its your first race, dont get discouraged. May Madness is a short sprint in effingham, its on the same course.

REV will be my first full, cant wait.

I actually did the Rev3 Tri Full Ironman this past Sept.  I to am from Chicago.   I never did a triathlon before, never did a marathon and never did an open water swim with people around me before doing this event.

Train indoor by doing intervals and once the weather gets better then do your training outside.  In the summer, go to Ohio Street Beach in downtown Chicago to train in the openwater.  They have marked bouy's.

For training for the run, I suggest going to Waterfall Glenn in Darien, IL once in a while.  (suburb of chicago).  It is a 9.6 mile loop with mild hills.

Registration complete!  I'm in for the Full Rev...again!  I did this crazy thing last year for my first full distance and had a blast.  Everything about the race is great, from  the venue to the involvement of the Cleveland Tri Club hosting pre-race training days, to the awesome race organization that Rev3 pulled off.  Can't wait to do it again!

I did the HIM at CP this past year. We stayed at the Hotel Breakers. It's more expensive than some others but being right at the beach start was very nice for both me and the family. It sold out this year so you might want to get your reservations in before too long if you decide to stay there.

I was going to recommend the Breakers as well.  We stayed there last year and for me it was a life saver.  I got up that morning, walked to T1 and was talking with some friends when someone said the word "chip."  Oh Crap!! I forgot my timing chip.  I hustled back to hotel and got it, then walked out the door and across the boardwalk  from the hotel to the start line.

I also stayed at breakers. I called about a month ahead and got a suite, so i guess i was just lucky with timing. I had 5 support members with me, so not having to worry about travel arrangements the morning of, or post race made it really nice.

Woke up, walked my stuff to transition, walked back to the room, showered and shaved and got into my wetsuit in the room! We watched the full distance people go off from my balcony.

Another thing I did was pay for a half night after the race.. allowed me to take a nap after my finish before the drive back to Indianapolis. Also allowed teammates to shower and they pitched in towards the cost... It cost me an extra ~20 to keep it for another 8-9 hours! Well worth every penny.

Hey Charlie-

Has Rev 3 contemplated any military/first responder discounts for this event?  It is the 10 year anniversary of Sept 11.
