Apperantly I wasn't done for the year like I thought. My wife enjoyed the Campus Challenge, but wants to run a race without our 5 yr old daughter to see how good she can do on her own. As a result we are running the LSSU Turkey Trot on Nov 13th.  The Turkey Trot runs almost the same course as the Campus Challenge so it is a good measure of her ability as well as my own improvement in a months time. Based on past experience with Sault Ste Marie weather, this is going to be a cold run.

We are doing the 10k Turkey Trot in Detroit. It might be 65F and sunny, it might be 20F and snowing, that's just the fun of living in Michigan

20F and snowing will be nice, I live in Sault Ste Marie, MI, so I am betting on snow or freezing rain.

In to run the Detroit 10K again (in a Santa Suit) with my wife as Mrs Claus and an addition this year, my daughter as an Elf.

I didn't see the opportunity to pre-pay to park at Cobo this year, like the did last year.  This worked out great for us last year and was hoping to do it again.

This is actually my 1st Turkey Trot since moving back to Northen MI in 1997. The last one I did was the Ft Hood TX Turkey 10K in 1996. The top finishers in each age group actually got a frozen turkey, the over all male and female got little gold turkey tropheys and a frozen bird. I enjoyed my bird with friends, but missed the trophey by about 30 secs. I usually stop racing in Oct, but this year we are pushing on.

I ran the Lansing turkey trot a few years back and it was nasty out. We had an ice storm the night before and was wondering if they were even thinking of cancelling race. Weather was pretty bad during race as well. (That's Michigan for ya.) This year my sister and I have entered the Detroit race and we are pretty excited about it. Hopefully the weather cooperates; we are bringing a 6, 3 , and a 1 yo.

LSSU Turkey Trot was great this year, the rain held off and the course is great, a good time for all. I managed a 40:55, which was very close to the 13 min mile I was aiming for. Now I am done until the Cabin Fever run in the spring. Five months of training should have me down to, with any luck, an 11:00 min mile average.

I finished the LSSU Turkey Trot 5k in 46 min 53 seconds.  I was thrilled!!!!  I had no idea I was going that quickly.  I usually only get 1.6 miles in 30 minutes so I was expecting to be closer to 1 hour.  It was so cool to see that timer as I came to the finish line.  I have already signed up for a cabin fever race in April so I look forward to training for an even faster time.
