Subject: Cycling Program v3.0 - 2010 - 2011
Guys,

This will be the official thread for the cycling program version 3.0 running for the winter 2010/spring 2011.

Please use this thread to ask any questions you might have. The official start of the plan will be on 11-01-10 though as of this coming Monday October 18, 2010 I'll post the 1st week for the preparation phase; this is for those who have been taking some time off, coming back from an injury or just have been inactive for whatever reason(s). If you are one of those then use this coming couple of weeks to get your cycling legs back and get some fitness flowing so you are better prepared to handle the work ahead!

I updated most of the materials from last year including the plan, terminology, downloadable files, etc. hence even if you did the plan last year check out the new stuff. For those just following this year, please read the links under "Cycling Program v3.0" on my blog.

Each weekend I'll post a link to my blog indicating a new training week is up for you to follow. If you have any question, please check the links first or ask those here and I'll be happy to chime in and help. This works well because some of the members have done the previous editions of the plan and will have valuable experiences, advice or tips to share. Sometimes it might take me a bit longer to respond so please, be patient. Please, do not email with questions regarding this program.

I still need to complete some stuff like downloadable "how to" PDF guides and a few "how to" videos but that won't take place until the official start of the plan.

For now, here is the link for the 1st preparation week; enjoy!

* Please keep in mind this is a general free plan which was not designed to meet your specific needs. You need to make the necessary adjustments to match your own limitations. Do not push beyond your limits, and please use common sense.
** Make sure you have been cleared by your Primary Care Physician to start a training program. PBM Coaching and Jorge Martinez are not responsible as we won't be monitoring your training or able to make adjustments to match your needs. You acknowledge that if you follow this plan, you choose to do so at your own risk
*** This plan is my way to give back to this wonderful community that has helped in through my tri-journey and to meet great friends. For that reason it is my suggestion that if you are not a BT member, please consider becoming one.

Thanks Jorge!  I just got my new powertap a few weeks ago and am in the middle of reading Racing and Training with Power to get an idea of how best to use it.  I am hoping this program will give me a good idea of how to train better with it.

Thanks Jorge! What does "A" and "B" mean on the HR plan? I am assuming these are levels of the HR.

Hmmmmm, I may be waiting a while to start this, can barely do 20 min easy spin right now.
Guess I'll copy the sets down as you post them each week and start them later.

Jorge,

I want to thank you for taking the time to put this program together. Secondly I will probably cuss you more than anyone I have never met (except politicians) for the butt kicking I will go through. I had time to do the first prep work out today and learned a few things I thought I would share.

1: Even for a 45 min workout and a very cool garage I still need a fan.
2: Either memorize the WU codes and workout plans before I start or find a place to set the papers so that they don't fall to the ground several times during the work out.
3: I need to learn a lot more about my RPE v heart rate and so on. For the first 35-36 minutes I wasn't paying attention to my heart rate monitor and then I noticed that my heart was spiking going from 180,190 and finally topping at 210. Being concerned aabout my heart rate I backed off the effort and dropped  my heartrate to average below 155 for the rest of the work out and CD. I wonder if I could have finished the work out at the same RPE at minute 35-36? It will be exciting to see what my LT will be when testing time comes.

Again thanks Jorge for all your hard work putting this together, and I will do my very best to stay dedicated to it as well .

Darrell,

Jorge, I am looking to do this in conjunction with a OS run program as well.  I should just do days 1 and 3 then the optional w/o on non running days correct?

If that fits your needs and how much training load you can handle then yes, but you'll have to try this out and see if it it is too much, too little or just enough.
