Pre-race routine:

Biked to a friend's SIL's house where my friend picked us up. Forgot the DVP was closed and ended up doubling our time out to the zoo - got there just in time to meet another friend who fortunately picked up my race kit. Stood in line for the port-a-potties and watched the race start from the line up to the port-a-potties.
Event warmup:

Running around trying to find friend with timing chip/bib and running to port-a-potty line up.

Comments:

This would probably be a really fun and beautiful course if I wasn't so frazzled from starting four minutes behind the gun. If I look back over the stats and insert my chip time, I came 16th, not 30th. Argghhhh...damned highway closures!!!

This is, though, a really great run - challenging and hilly - didn't really see many animals, though, as I was too focused on trying to get around three corrals full of people. Ended up passing my friends at about 2k, but didn't see them. Considering I haven't run since Muskoka over a month ago, I'm pleased with my time, and maybe could have come in under 50 if I had started with my corral.

Some guy was pacing off me for the last couple of kilometers, and then just before the finish, pulled ahead and said something to the effect that I could pace off him now - then he pulled away. I just didn't really have it in me and by then my ITB was protesting, although the spidertech tape worked well, combined with my new CWX tights - I believe that the combination kept me all together for this run.
What would you do differently?:

Remember that highways are closed and find a much better alternate route than the one we did! Not be injured. Blah blah blah...
Post race
Warm down:

Waited for friends to finish, grabbed a bit of food, drove to Body Blitz and "took the waters" with the girls - cold plunge pool was excellent! Went to lunch at Queen Mother. Awesome way to finish any race.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Injury, being late to the race...etc.

Event comments:

Excellent race. They're moving it to the third weekend in September next year, so will probably do it as a tune up for the marathon that's moving to this weekend. Sells out really quickly, though, so sign up early.
