I'll be visiting the area soon - will be in Scottsdale for a few days, then up to Sedona. Was wondering if anyone had some suggestions for run routes, or for can't-miss hikes.

Or, any other hidden gems that most people don't know about.

Thanks.

What distances? Are you looking for trails, roads, or both? There are a million trails in Sedona, and many interconnect to make the run whatever distance you want. What part of Sedona are you staying in? Most roads are safe in Sedona to run on, including forest roads. Trails are safe too (of course) but they are a little more harsh than you're used to in the North East (more rocks and elevation changes).

Let me know which area of Sedona you are staying in, and I can give you some good running recommendations in the area. Hiking, too though I don't mind driving to a hike. I like to start running from my front door...

You can also rent a road bike in Sedona and join a group ride on the weekends. I usually ride on Saturdays and run on Sundays.

I don't know anything about Scottsdale...

If you're going to be staying in Central Scottsdale, I'd suggest the Phoenix Mountain Preserve trailhead at 40thst/Shea.  There's lots of trails to choose from that location.  Here's the link to the trails:  http://phoenix.gov/PARKS/hikphgud.html

If you're staying in North Scottsdale, I'd suggest the Gateway trailhead.   18333 N. Thompson Peak Pkwy. Scottsdale, 85255

Have fun!

Thanks for the suggestions.

Just to answer...I'm aiming to do some half-day hikes, as well as 5-6 mile runs.
