If you were going to spend about $500 on one diagnostic test, relating to triathlon, what would you do?

(Please behave with the "add your own option")

If you've not had a bike fit, that's where I would start.

Take the left over and get a coach for a while. Chances are the coach will have field testing for you to do

I'm sure both the VO2Max and LT Test can provide valuable information, but I simply don't see the need for either as you can have very effective training without them.  I'm speaking out of ignorance because I really dont' know what additional benefits I could get if I had those tests done.

Field tests are easy to do and easy to repeat on a regular basis.  $500 of coaching can go a long way!

I added a used PM (the diagnostic test that keeps on giving).  I know that technically it's a piece of equipment, but really this is a test that I cannot do myself in the field, and it's something I'd like to know.  I added it not for the sake of the equipment, but because I'd need the equipment to do the test (FTP, for starters).

i don't know where you live or how expensive this stuff is but....

VO2max test at Univ of Miami is $90 for non student non alumni.  A good bike fit will be $200.  that should leave you some money to get a coach also for a couple of months.

bike fit does make a huge improvement.  it did for my riding at least.
