Comments:

There was way too much drafting going on in this race. The lead 4-7 guys were in a team time trial formation almost everytime I saw them on course.
I actually sat up and yelled at a guy behind me to pass or get off my wheel...very annoying!
There were no course officials to enforce drafting penalties and with the RD selling it as a fun race, the "you're only cheating yourself" mantra only goes so far...
What would you do differently?:

Maybe shoot for a more even pace. I was 22+ in the first lap, mid 20-21.5 in the second lap, and 20ish (or much less in the climbes) in the thrid lap.
Transition 2
  • 01m
Comments:

T2 was hot! When I was changing shoes and stepped on the pavement, my feet were quite literaly burning!
What would you do differently?:

I don't really flying dismount, and haven't practiced it, so, nothing.
Run
  • 1h 38m 30s
  • 13.05 miles
  • 07m 33s  min/mile
Comments:

I carried a water bottle for the entire run, and this was the only reason I was able to run well. I filled my bottle at almost every aid station to keep a supply of cold water to drink and dump on myself between aid stations. It was extremely hot out there.
What would you do differently?:

Not much, this was one of my better 1/2IM run performances. I could have eaten more and taken more salt. I really only took in enough calories/electrolytes to keep my muscles from feeling crampy.
Post race
Warm down:

Walking
Cold Towel
Cold Shower
No Massage was available

Event comments:

Great race, but with little support from the regional authorities the Race Director said he may not do the race again next year...that would be a shame, because he put on a great race.

The course was about 4 miles short according to my bike computer. The strong crosswinds acted as a head/tail wind depending on the direction of the course. No water bottle handoffs on this race, but you could stop and get a bottle refilled (I did this at the start of the third lap).
Wind: Cross-winds with gusts
Course: 3 Loops of a 30k route. This was a more challenging course than expected with 2 climbs, a couple long grades, and some good flat sections.
