i've done racine several times and also live in c-ville.  i stay in a hotel every year so that i can hang with BTers or other friends for dinner the night before.  much less stress.

Lyoshka - 2011-01-02 11:57 AM Question for all of your Racine sign-uppers.. do you stay in the hotel in the area, or drive up? I'm in Carpentersville, so about 75 miles away, and (strongly) considering just driving up for the event. Well, of course I'll have to go on Sat to the expo and to rack the bike, and then come home and drive up on Sunday. Any advice regarding all that?

If you are going to be booking a hotel you should be doing it as soon as possible. The very low end ones are still available and the very expensive ones (Marriot and Raddison) are still open. The Radisson you have to book on Friday and Saturday night (they won't let you book on just Saturday Night). The Marriot is 200ish. I just booked at the Comfort Inn for 150 dollars, but most of the middle-priced hotels are already booked from my research.

Absolutely.  The other option  is waiting for the week of the race as there are always quite a few rooms that open up at that time.

Thanks, Steve and Rjhall (sorry, don't know your name)..

yeah, I'm thinking i'll just drive this year. Definitely can't do $150. I *may* do what Steve suggests and call around the week of the race..

I've never paid $150.  I typically get a room @ super 8 or the knights inn, then split with 1-2 other guys.  makes for a cheap and convenient night stay.

BTW, when are we getting together neighbor?

I was considering the Knights Inn...but I ended up cowering in fear thinking about bed bugs and stuff. I couldn't bring myself to book a 50 dollar hotel. Wish I could have...would have saved 100 dollars and spent it on some gear :D

Does anyone know where the transition area is?  (I can't locate it on the racine website :P)
And along those lines, what is the closest hotel?  My (not extremely mobile) grandparents and parents are coming and so I think I'll just book a few rooms.  Or I have half a mind to stay on their sailboat in the harbor, LOL.

Looks like transition is at the corner of Barker Street and Michigan Boulevard. The Raddison is going to be the closest, but you need to book for 2 nights. They just unblocked all of their rooms for the 2 nights yesterday.

See the tentative schedule for 2011 here:  http://www.ironmanracine.com/schedule.php

I would advise getting a hotel (and best get one soon as they are selling out already).
