Comments: I was shooting for a 38 minute swim time and was very pleased with my 34:50. Before this half I read my "what would you do differently" post from the Washington Olympic and I was able to put it to use. I dug in stayed in the pack and close to the bouys and concentrated on breathing and stroking with a glance at my sight bouys occasionally. What would you do differently?: I think I need a coach to watch my technique to help me improve, also some strenght training this off season. Transition 1
Comments: I feel like I did well for my first ever T1 with a wetsuit. 13th overall, 3rd in age group. Its also the first time I practiced my transition the night before. What would you do differently?: Practice numerous times the night before Bike
Comments: Where to begin? I started off the bike course by clipping into 1 pedal then slipping off of the other and landing hard on the seat. A UFC fighter gets up to 5 minutes off for a blow like that. I did the Olympic at the same course and was able to avg. 21mph. My goal for the half was 20, it was brutal! I felt like I was in a head or cross wind the whole race, if anyone else who did this race reads this and agrees please comment so I dont feel like such a crybaby. Obviously I missed my bike goal and I feel like I expended way too much energy maintaining what I finished up with. I am disappointed to where I will improve and I will get a trainer and put some time in on it. What would you do differently?: Get a trainer and watch the game while spinning. Go to some spinning classes. Transition 2
Comments: T2 went well, 5th in age group 39th overall. Didnt really make any mistakes. What would you do differently?: Next season ill have a tri suit where I wont be changing clothes so much Run
Comments: Felt pretty good on the run, used up more on the bike due to the wind and missed my goal by 6 minutes but my goal will still be there next time.Ran the whole race til the last mile with bib #99 Mark Taylor who finished 31 overall, was a big help to have Mark to run with. The run is definitely become my best of the 3 events. Marathon in March What would you do differently?: Im just gonna put in more miles to prepare myself for the discomfort. At exactly mile 12 I could not hold my pace anymore (sub 8:30) without yelling at myself. Post race
Warm down: Hurry to check out of the hotel so I wouldnt have to pay for another night. What limited your ability to perform faster: I need a plan instead of winging it. I need to put some trainer time in. I need to do an activity on those nights or mornings that I dont want to do an activity. Event comments: I did the olympic distance here and upon those times set my goal at 5:15, 5:30 or bust. I made my goal and am thrilled with the fact that I completed a 70.3 on my first year of competing. Triathlons have changed my outlook on life in a very positive way and I look foward to continuing. Woke up at 5:00 a little nervous, had some coffee, bagel, and a banana. Avoided the dairy this time.
I've realized this season that my event warmups are minimal. I will take time next season to get a good routine stretching and warming up. Did some light stretching and jogging got my wetsuit on.
