Pre-race routine:

First HM. I don't have one, but I really need to come up with a new one. I am fairly sure.

Dropping your ipod in the toilet is bad. Really bad. As my good friend said...that might be a sign the running gods are not on your side. That was the first sign.

Ran over to Starbucks ordered up my triple tall soy latte. Ate 1.5 larabars.
Event warmup:

Ate my first gel 30 minutes prior. Did my 10 minute work out. Walking, easy jogging and strides to wake up those fast twitch muscle. Seeded ourselves fairly close to the front of the pack.

Comments:

This race went very well. I had some major GI issues that started right from the get go. I think it was nerves. I stayed within the limits of what I thought I could do, this being my first race at this distance. I took my coaches advice and followed it closely. When I crossed the finish line I knew I had done the best I could do with what I had. I have no regrets.

I am super excited to race my next HM. I like the challenge of it. Those of you who know me are probably thinking I have lost my mind. Hell, it was fun even when I was dry heaving on the course. Now I actually know what it is like to run to the point of puking. I am in with the likes of DJ Davey!!! Well, I can puke like him, but I can't run like him. :)
What would you do differently?:

I would eat 3 hours prior to the race. I will bring 2 ipods with me just in case I drop one in the toilet.
Post race
Warm down:

Hugged my dear friend Tripletemom. Walked back the hotel, barfed a little a long the way. Laid in the chair praying for my stomach cramps to subside. Talked with my dear husband and coach. Went back to the race to find out Tripletemom took 3rd in our AG!!! How awesome is that!!! She had a big ole PR that day.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

GI issues.

Performance: Good
So, I was suppose to be running in upper Z3. That would put me at 160. My HR was 170-172. Threw HR out the window and ran on RPE and pace. Ran behind a guy in a school girl outfit. I kept my eyes focused on the bouncing skirt. :) Didn't get a peak, but it sure was a nice plaid skirt. It reminded me of the look I used to sport in high school, but my skirt was much shorter and I wore Dr. Martins with the white knee high socks, not running shoes. Also, ran with a cutie patootie bumble bee. Passed them at mile 3 and hung onto a 7:45-7:50 pace until mile 12 where my stomach took over the run.
Course: Residential roads, winding paths, lots of turns with some hills. Not to hard, not to easy either. Just right.

Great Job Tracy!   Very, very well done, especially when you consider the GI issues AND it being your first time at the distance.  You were very well prepared and when things didn't go according to plan (right from the get-go), you did a great job of dealing with adversity.

Next time don't stop to puke...just keep rolling.  Then I would have won my little side bet with Brett
