Registered today! Well Very early this morning.

I was up helping my wife take care of some items for work after midnight so I registered then. I wonder if that will reflect in my bib number assignment.

I'm in....almost died when I woke up at 5AM, and active.com's site said the race was already full.

I went to active.com at 12:00am 1 Nov 2010 and when I saw that 70.3 was full I was disappointed.  I still followed the registration process and ended up getting a confirmation at 12:05am.  I sent an email to [email protected] immediately and she replied before 12:15am that active.com didn't fix their website.  It is now fixed.

I was surprised to read on twitter that Vineman 70.3 is 2/3 full at around 7pm on Nov 1, 2010.

I'm in!  Second HIM.  I was really planning on waiting at least a month to decide.  Guess this will help keep me focused on my biking this winter.  I hear the course is harder than the one in Austin, which I just did.

I'm in - so's my DH!  Not an easy call, with my legs still in pain from Sunday, but I'm very excited!

Being a point-to-point race, where do people usually stay?

We're staying right in Guernville @
http://www.westsonomainn.com/

It's located about 2 blocks from the start at Johnson's Beach.  We really enjoyed our stay last year.  Next year, the HIM + our stay before and after the HIM at West Sonoma Inn is our major yearly vacation.  We reserved a room with a kitchenette as we learned last year that eating in Guernville during Vineman week was a bit insane price-wise.

Judging by early AM traffic in Guernville on race day, I would not want to be driving into Guernville on River Rd & have to look for parking.  G'ville was a madhouse.  However, we nonchalantly strolled down to the start line with coffee in hand and watched the various waves start the race.  I was the official race photographer, though.

Hi all

I was wondering if you could help me out. Could  you help me break down the costs doing this race besides entry fee  to it. ie.Hotels ( where to say), fly into (coming from the east coast), Rental car ( better to say close to finish or close to the swim start). I just want to see what the money factor would be to go to Cali.

Thanks

WAHOO!!!  MY first HIM

We've reserved a camp spot at River Bend.  I understand that it should be close enough to just ride my bike down there in the am and not have to deal w/ someone dropping me off.

CAN'T WAIT!!!

Just booked the West Sonoma Inn.  It gets good reviews on Trip Advisor and looks like it will be very convenient for race day.  Looks like rooms are going fast since there are definately fewer available than when I checked two weeks ago.

Did you get a room with a kitchenette?  We rented a "creekside room" last year & it didn't have a kitchenette; however, had we known the layout beforehand, we could have brought a small outdoor grill for the patio to cook some of our own meals.

I got a vineyard view room; no kitchen.  I seldom cook at home and I certainly don't on vacation.  I will have a cooler and plenty of things to drink and munch on.  Part of my enjoyment in traveling is finding new places to eat, even if it just a place to get breakfast or a sandwhich.

I did this race in 2008 and my race report is in my logs for you all to read. I think I do a good job describing the course.

I'm in!

Need some advice on the bike - trying to decide between using my tri bike (11-25 cassette) or a road bike with granny gear. What's best for this course? Any advice from those that have previous course knowledge? Want to make sure I have some legs left for the run.

Thanks! Happy training.

I'll be on my road bike with a granny gear, but then again, that is all I have.  I don't even have areobars yet and decided not to worry about it until after this race.

Is there any way you can ride the course  before the event?

So I'm not racing this year, but I did this race last year as my first Half and have swam and ridden the course many times in training so if anyone has any questions I'd be happy to answer them.

This year I'll be out there manning the Golden Gate Tri Club's aid station and cheering for all the racers!

I will try to ride it before the race - that would certainly be best - agreed. Any in the area Bt'ers want to see if we can coordinate a day to try to ride the course?

My partner & I planned a weekend to stay up in Windsor, and ride, run and swim the course, or at least parts of the course sometime in June (the date eludes me right now).  I don't think we planned to do it all on one day, since this weekend was partly a getaway and partly for recon.

We plan to start the ride at Windsor High School instead of Guerneville.  Also, someone on BT mentioned the Golden  Gate Triathlon Club coordinates a group ride on the Vineman route.  They have a public listing of their upcoming rides on their website.  The Vineman course seems to be popular with cyclists, so even if you went by yourself, you'd have plenty of company on the route.

Only a few more weeks to go!  Can anyone tell we what the expected water temp will be?  Also, will they have wetsuit strippers?  I have only had my wetsuit on a couple of times this year, not in any races, and I am not quick getting it off.  I plan to do some practice stripping in my living room in the next few weeks, but it would be nice to have someone else help to get the darn thing off my calves and feet.
