weissjaz - 2011-06-23 8:45 AMOnly a few more weeks to go!  Can anyone tell we what the expected water temp will be?  Also, will they have wetsuit strippers?  I have only had my wetsuit on a couple of times this year, not in any races, and I am not quick getting it off.  I plan to do some practice stripping in my living room in the next few weeks, but it would be nice to have someone else help to get the darn thing off my calves and feet.
Water temp according to a friend who swam last weekend was 75-ish, last year it was 72 or so, very comfortable. I don't recall wetsuit strippers the past two years. Very short transition area from swim out to the bike racks...and super organized. Hope everyone's training is going well!

Is everyone planning to use a wetsuit?  A sleeveless suit?  No suit?

This is my first IM race.  I'm worried that the wetsuit will be disallowed or I'll be too warm in it.  A friend was there last weekend and he said it was ridiculously hot.

I'm not worried about anything in the race as much as the "to wetsuit or not wetsuit" decision.

I'm planning on swimming Sat am to decide.
The only wetsuit I have is full sleeve and I've been OWS practicing in high 50's to low 60's, I'm totally expecting to spontaneously combust in anything over 70 :/

Guess I better practice getting my wetsuit off just in case.  One of the pools I use is about 74 and I am fine in a sleevless, but I always have problems getting it off over my calves and heels even with some sort of glide.  I have a sprint there this weekend.  Plan to use the race as a transition practice/fun day only.  Maybe they will let me use a wetsuit?

Nice review!  Do you happen to remember how windy it gets during the bike portion?  Will you recommend a disc?  I'm undecided between a 606 set or using the disc with a 404 on the front.  Thank you.

A couple of ALWAYS for all of you.

ALWAYS ride the disc.
ALWAYS wear a full sleeve wet suit when allowed.

The river isn't too warm and the bike course isn't that hilly or windy.

Was that before or after the river gage jumped up a foot?
Looks like perhaps they released some water from a dam this morning, that's a big jump from 7.2 to 8.1.

Where did you find the temp reading?  All I can find is the USGS river gage.

THANKS!

^^^  Sorry, now I found it

I'm REALLY thinking that the temp has dropped.  The river gage is showing a flow of 288cfs. The forecast is looking like it will cool down into the 70's next week.  Hoping that holds and it stays cool.
(fingers crossed)

That was a 6pm temp. I am guesssing it is cooler by a few degrees in the morning.

In any case the weather looks a bit cooler for race week which should help.

Rode an out and back on the front half of the course today and I'm sorry to say the roads are in pretty rough shape. Much worse than last year when I raced. The Vineman team has the bad potholes pretty well marked with bright orange paint so you can see them which is good, but expect a bumpy ride.

Good luck to everyone during your taper! I'm the lead volunteer for Run Aid Station #4 (the Golden Gate Tri Club station at miles 4 and 9) so I'll see you all out on the run course!

Water temp as of Jul 13th is 74 degrees.  Yikes that's close!

Who's getting excited?!  Who getting antsy with taper?!

Anyone know if ice will be available at the running aid stations?

Good luck y'all

Yes, I remember ice at the aid stations last year.  Really well manned stations, lots of water and volunteers.

Local news had a weather 'snippet' for Vineman...and to quote the weathergirl - conditions are going to be perfect!  A bit chilly at the start with a projected 52, but the high is only supposed to hit 75 ~ wow!!

Getting very jazzed here - starting to pack up!!

Did OK.  This was my 3rd triathlon and first HIM.  Met my first goal of just finishing!  Yeh!  Easily met my second goal of breaking 6hours.  Yeh!  BUT got killed on the second half of the run! I remember an earlier post warning of the hills on the run leg but those hills really kicked by booty!  Ouch! Double Ouch! After a bit of recovery, on to training for IMAZ.

Thanks to all the volunteers out there.  Impossible w/o your help.

Congrats to everyone who raced yesterday! You all looked great out there. We had a blast out at our aid station on the run. If you got water, gatorade or coke from a Banana, a Penguin, a Peep or Buzz Lightyear that was our aid station!

HA!!  I told the banana guy that I liked his banana, and he asked me 'which one?'  I believe I spit out my water!!

Thanks for volunteering!

CONGRATS!!!  I can't imagine what it would have been like to do this as only my 3rd tri ever.  This was also my first HIM... I finished 7:26 and will happily live with it.  Where I am beating myself up is that I had the opportunity to PR my 1/2Mary up until mile 9 :/  If only....

Nice job to everyone out there.  I'm glad the weather was "cool", I'd hate to see what it's like on a warm day out here.  And this humidity... Oh my!!!

Thank you so much you guys!  I PR'd on Sunday while racing with a cold, and I gotta say, your aid station was a big part of it.  Made me smile to see you guys on the outbound run, and I was looking forward to seeing you all again on the return.

To you, your team and all the other volunteers out there over the weekend, THANK YOU for making it a great race!!!!
