I know there are some people that aren't happy about the way WTC took over this race. Plenty of threads already on that subject so I won't go there! I'm just hoping for an organized event and good weather. I really enjoyed my 1st HIM this past September and looking forward to a tough winter of training.

I'm curious about the run course too. I train on flat roads! A little nervous about "challenging" on my first HIM.

I read some of the race reports from the previous year's Muncie Endurathon (same run course) and it sounds like it is a challenging run. I haven't been able to find any elevation change info so I don't have any details. Hopefully some veterans of the race will join in and give us some or their experiences. I know my run training is going to include more hill work!!

Muncie 70.3 will be my first HIM, looking forward to the experience!

I've participated in one of the Muncie Multi-sport Oly's this year at the same venue, and can say first hand the rolling hills on the run can be...tough.  The area south of the reservoir is where all the rollers are located, with the middle-ish portion of the 13.1 flattening out.

Throw me some feedback on this one...anyone do it last year? Looking at adding it as a tune-up for IMLOU in Aug...it fits perfectly in the race schedule....thx

I am planning to sign up for Muncie, too.  This will be my 4th half and 2nd Muncie.  I wrote up a little "course comparison" after I completed my 3rd half this past Fall.  It is attached if anyone is interested.  Be warned; it is a little long and just based on my own personal experiences

Thanks for that link,
I will be doing this race this year. My queston, is there alot of room during the swim or was there alot of bumping around? I did Syracuse 70.3 last year and the swim was nice, not really even one bump.

Unfortunately, the year I did Muncie ('09), there was a storm brewing in.  The water was really rough and siteing (sp?) was pretty tricky.  Therefore, there was definitely some contact, and lots of people hanging onto buoy's (more than I have ever seen) but I did not feel like it was overwhelming.  Without a storm, my opinion would be, plenty of space to swim in

Looks like im going to jump in on this one....was goin to do Cardinal Harbour 1/2 as a tuneup for IMLOU, but havent read anything good about the race other then it being on the IMLOU course. For me, If im going to drive 7-10hrs, I want it to be a quality experence. Plus Muncie fit PERFECTLY timeline wise on my race schedule/build to LOU. Cardinal was a week later and about at the limit 6 weeks out from LOU. Muncie give me a solid 7-8 weeks to rebuild before LOU...just a better fit all-around.
Will register before the price goes up Jan 1. Welcome to the par-tay everyone!!!

I'm officially in for Muncie, too!  I'm excited to attempt a PR on the course; loved racing there in '09.  This will also be a prep race for Louisville ~ sounds like lots of folks on the LOU thread are signed (or signing) up for this one as well.

Happy New Year!!

Does anyone know where the best place to get a Hotel? I'm only finding one hotel within 30 minutes of the race. and thats in Anderson, IN.

The race takes place at the Prairie Creek Reservoir which has an address of 7801 South County Road 560 East, Selma, IN. If you put that address in mapquest then ask it to find the hotels closest, you will find about 20 of them within 6 to 10 miles from the race site in Muncie. Other than a campground, there's nothing closer. Good idea to start looking.

I did the race last year and it was SO well run and organized being a non-WTC race. Hopefully it'll stay that way now that they've taken it over.

Regarding your question on the swim, Nate, I think, like Stacie, that there's plenty of room. It was my first HIM last year and I was VERY nervous when I found out I was in the 3rd wave. Usually us old folks are the last wave so I thought I'd be run over since I'm a very slow swimmer. I didn't get run over but I did get passed by about 5 waves of people behind me. I only got bumped a few times. I know I had plenty of space in my wave to find a comfortable lane to swim.

Also on the elevation questions, you should definitely add hill work to your running program. My problem as a first time HIMer was I didn't pace well and gave to much on the bike and ended up having to walk some on the run. I walked the hills for sure so they didn't impact me as much as if I'd been able to run the whole thing. Any ways, do hill work.

I'm getting excited thinking about doing it again but being smarter on my pacing.

I just booked my hotel at the Days Inn. looks a little dated but most hotels were sold out or required 2 night stay. I guess it beats sleeping in the car.

I'm glad you found something, Destrey. I've slept in the car before a race in the past and it's no fun.

I actually canceled my Days Inn reservation and got a room at teh Comfort Inn, it was twice the price but looks alot nicer.

I'm not too picky but my wife, kids and inlaws will probably be coming as well. I figure since they are coming to support me they would apprectaie the better hotel.
