Thought I'd start a thread because there's this green square on my calender, and that doesn't happen too often!

Seems a bit too early to be running a marathon, but it should be fun!  Anybody else plan on running?

Good to see some people in for the half.

Just hoping it won't be too cold just yet.

Me too, although as hot as it's been I've been much more concerned about hot weather.  But the weather is definitely changing...

I did the half the last two years, but not this year.  It's a lot of fun.  Nice course and good music!

If you're driving to the race on race morning, get to the parking lot very early (you take a bus from the parking lot to the race start).   Late arrivers get to the starting area just before race start and all the port-o-potties will be occupied.  Not a good way to start a race......

The first year I got dropped off on Highway 281 (traffic jam) near Trinity University and walked to the race start.  I'd recommend this if you have someone to drop you off.

I've heard parking and getting to the start are insane, so we booked a hotel within walking distance of the start, so hopefully that makes it a bit easier in the morning!

I did the same thing (got dropped off on 281) the last two years. This year they changed the beginning of the course and the start is in downtown. It's off market street and about a mile from the finish.

Ran the full the last 2 yrs, half this year....have to echo the traffic nightmare comments.  With the new starting location the drop off may be easier but my fear is that it will be significantly worse.....

My wife and I are doing the 1/2.  Since we are from north of Austin, we will be staying the night before in a hotel near the Alamo.  Looks like it will be fun.

Can any locals recommend a good place for a pre-race dinner in the Alamo/Riverwalk area?  Our team sponsor is hosting a dinner at Macaroni Grill out on I-10, but I am not sure I want to drive way out there.

An interesting place for out-of-towners is Carmen's de la Calle http://www.carmensdelacalle.com/.  Might not be great if your looking for a high carb pasta dinner, though.

Boudros on the Riverwalk is always a good bet. http://www.boudros.com/boudros/.  The guacamole that they make at your table is really good!

Anyone need/want a hotel room downtown starting Friday? I'm unable to make it out, but have a good room down there. PM me if interested. Willing to discount it off---it's available to Monday.

Hi, I'm new here and live in San Antonio (I've been lurking)....I'm running the full and am all kinds of excited!

One thing though....uuuhhh I've never even seen a marathon in person and have never ran that far in my life....I'm just sorta going for it. I've been traiining and have done a half marathon...I'm shooting for a time under 4 hours.

Good luck to all and lets hope for good weather !

Gotta love unscheduled trains. I was in corral 4 and arrived at the crossing about 5 seconds before the locomotive arrived. Should have foliowed the guy in front of me and went for it. My Garmin paused while we stopped and started when we took off again. My garmin time was 3:20 faster than my chip time. It will interesting to see how they adjust times.

I heard runners around me talking about this at mile 2 or so. I was supposed to be in corral 4 as well, but got mixed up and started in corral 3. I guess I barely missed the train.

The following is posted on San Antonio's Rock-n-Roll website:

We apologize to runners who were affected by the interruption during today’s Rock ‘n’ Roll San Antonio Marathon and 1/2 Marathon. At 7:27 a.m., shortly after the start of the race, an unscheduled freight train crossed the course at Commerce Street (mile 0.8), interrupting the event for a brief period of time.Race officials, working with law enforcement and emergency services, immediately addressed the situation, holding runners and delaying the next starting waves until the train had passed.

The disruption did not affect the elite race and the times for all of the affected runners will be adjusted as necessary.

All in all it was a good race. Great spectators, good music and plenty of water/bathroom stations. Thought that there were a few too many turns on the course, but that was minor compared to the train.

I thought it was a great race.  I liked the course.  Spectators were amazing.  Probably more spectators than at any other running race I've done.  I ran a nice PR so very good day for me.

The train was the only issue...and that is a big issue.  I didn't get caught by it.  But my wife did get caught.  We think she still PR'd if we take out the train time.

I ended up not racing (got a concussion 8 days prior and still wasn't feeling 100% so opted not to risk additional brain damage LOL!)

I heard the train just before 7:30 from our hotel room and remembered that the course crossed some tracks and wondered if it was effecting the race.

I was one of the lucky ones not affected.  Great day to run and a 2.5 min PR on the half.

I finished.....it was my first full marathon, had fun...awesome experience!
My time was 4:33:52 which I don't think was all that great....but I had never ran that far, so with some training maybe I can improve!
