Just wanted to correct what I said about temps and winds slightly:

From just after 11 AM until 5 PM, temps with be in the low 50s

Winds light from the southwest to west-southwest 3-7 mph.

All else is the same.

No real change to the forecast for Saturday (yea!). The only thing is possibly temps reaching near 60 degrees during the afternoon. That could cause some hydration issues, especially if you don't shed clothes after the AT at Weverton. My support crew is recommending arm warmers that you can remove once the temperature gets above say 50 degrees. That'll happen after 10 AM, hopefully when we're arriving at Weverton.

BTW, winds today may gust above 40 mph over the entire region. So, there may be more downed trees on the AT than before. Also, not sure whether the winds will help clear out the leaves or just litter the trail with even more. Something to look for come Sat morning.

It looks like we couldn't ask for a better day in late November.  I think I'm going to go with the shorts.  Arm warmers as well.  I'm a really really big baby in the cold, though.

I can't believe this is this weekend.

I will have a fleece vest on for the beginning as it will be in the 30s-40s along the AT. Plus the winds are forecasted to be up a bit more than previously thought. I'll shed the vest after the AT and the tights I'll have on as well. The arm warmers/gloves I'll decide when I get to Weverton. I may just keep them on but shed them on the way to Antietam as the temperatures get up into the 50s. The T-shirt I'll be wearing will actually be a bike jersey. It has back pockets that I can stuff such items in. This has worked pretty well for me on longer runs.

I'll be meeting my crew captain and the rest of the support crew for lunch tomorrow. There will be veteran JFK racers there as well and they want to get to the packet pickup after 2 as that's apparently when last year's JFK items you can buy will be out at a reduced rate. So, I'll be at packet pickup before it opens.

Maybe see you there, Carrie and Judy? I'll probably hang around a bit, but I'll need to get back to pack my support bag not too long after.

I'll check the weather again today and post any changes.

Less than 48 hours as I write this. Though nervous, I am more than ready to go!

I plan on being there around 3:30ish.  I'm staying at the Clarion so it's convenient.  I was also going to wear a fleece vest at least for the first part.  The arm warmers will probably stay on for the majority of the day - my upper body never seems to warm up - we'll see, though.

I hear ya. I was running last week in upper 50 weather and was too warm in long sleeves. So, I'll probably shed the arm warmers when I'm on the C&O and probably the gloves too. But, I'll have them handy in case I start getting chilled again. Will be in shorts after Weverton, shedding the tights.

I'll stick around packet pickup so maybe I'll see you and Judy. Full name is Dave Miller, number 302. Would you believe there's another Dave Miller who's only a year younger in the race too? He's from NY though. Hopefully catch ya later!

Good luck racers! I am headed down now to crew a fast kiddo from Weverton Cliffs (Mile 15) to Antietam (Mile 27). My job is to slow her down!

We should hit a BTMD trail run on the "JFK15" Appalachian Trail Portion of the JFK50 run sometime .... it's just down the road about 30 minutes to start and 20 minutes from Weverton. The loop to the aquaduct and back is a nice bike ride, too.

Congratulations to Carrie and Judy who were racing yesterday as they finished the JFK!! I myself as well and it was a grand day for such an event! Santa - yeah, that was pretty cool! Super support all around and though tough, it was an enjoyable event. Congrats to others who also finished the event as well! I'll be posting a race report when I'm able. First, rest and recovery.

It was a great day!  I had tons of fun!  Not once did I think to myself that I wanted or had to stop.  Awesome first 50 miler. Congrats to everyone who did the race. I must say I thought the event was well run.
