I thought someone needed to start this thread for this race. I rode 50% of the bike course the other day and it was pretty interesting. There was every kind of terrain on this course, and I love it. At first it was intimidated by the course but it was pretty fun. The best part is most of the course has decent road conditions however there are many VERY dangerous places.

Who's in?

I'm in. I watched the videos and know the roads fairly well. I would be very uncomfortable riding the course solo due to the narrow road, no shoulder and blind curves. I would expect it will be a little safer managed by the local police on race day

I'm considering it.  Most likely the Oly though.  I'm not quite over my B2B experience enough to jump on another HIM yet.

I agree some of the roads crossings are extremely dangerous. Did you notice on the video of the bike course is exactly backwards of what the map has on the website?

Chad,
FWIW, I felt the same way after my first HIM. The second went much smoother and actually felt easy. You have a whole year to prepare. I understand completely if you don't like the distance. I personally think Olympic distance is a great distance to maintain fitness and health. Once you start going beyond that injury and body damage become a higher probability.

Rubber 82,
I didn't pick up on that

Well, it was more that I probably shouldn't have raced based on the cuts I'd done to my training.  It was really an untrained HIM, and that's not quite smart.

Oh well, it was fun, I'm just not sure that I really WANT to put the time in to being prepped for a HIM again.  Heck, I didn't train for the last one, so I can't quite wrap my head around doing another yet.  I'm sure I will in the future, I'm just not sure when it will be.

I'll be there, can't wait!  It will either be my first or possibly second 70.3 (undecided if I'm doing the half or the oly @ Rev3 Quassy in June)

What videos? Where is the link please?

Im looking forward to finishing the season with an A race!
Thanks and good luck all!

Run Course

There are probably will not be many dangerous parts on the bike course on race day with police at the intersections, but we were saying that you have to be very careful during training because it crosses many "busy" highways. Also the roads are a bit rough but not terrible and the whole course is rolling hills.

Hope this helps

Helped Greatly!!!
I can tell what is meant by dangerous as well with all the skidmarks at all the intersections!

Ok so for those that have ridden it-do we have any average speeds yet?
Does it feel fast?

Does anyone have a elevation profile for the run?

Thisll be my 2nd IM-call it revenge on the distance call it motivation call it what you want. But I say thanks and good luck to all!

Here's the run course & profile. (Scroll down for the profile and detailed route):

And you didn't ask for the bike, so I'm guessing you saw it. But just in case, here's the bike info:

I hope there's more details than that-

A. Theres the challenge of doing both that they offered.

B. Would they run both races at the same time

C. Logistical nightmare

I really want to do the Oly for this one. I'm dealing with the sticker shock right now. $175 seems a little steep, but it's pretty much in my back yard. I won't need a hotel or anything. Has anyone experience a Rev 3 race before? Are they worth it?

Here's what I got:

We have been forced to move the Olympic Rev to Sunday Oct. 9th, to operate in conjunction with the Half Rev. There is a Clemson home football game on Saturday that may cause some disruption to our race if we were to have it on Saturday. We are confident that we can operate two races on the same day without any inconvenience to you.

We believe this will only enhance the experience you will have.

We apologize if this causes any inconveniences to your travel plans or schedule but we wanted to give you as much advance warning as possible.

Our website will be updated within the next day to reflect this.

See you at the races!

Rev3 Team

I'm in! I've never done a Rev3 race before but I've heard they're really well organzied and fun to do. Plus it was this or HIM Augusta but I just couldn't stand to do another half with over 3,000 people!

Anyone doing any fun warm up races this summer/fall?

Is there a date where the registration fee increases?  Funds are a little tight and I saw that B2B reg fees are increasing at the end of April.

I signed up for the Oly this week!  Looks like you get a lot of swag.  I guess I justified the entry fee by saying this was my 'A' race for the year.  Plus taking the family camping, so we're making a weekend out of it.

I rode the Half bike course last Saturday. Well.. sorta. I left off the last 4 miles that go to the bike/run transition area and I made a few turns that weren't on the published course. There were blue taped arrows on the roads that mostly coincided with the map, so I followed those instead.

I have a blog entry that covers my ride experience in detail. It also includes maps and profile showing the differences between what I rode and the actual course. Check it out at:

Re the blue markings, I wonder if they're for the "Tour de la France Family/Fun Ride." This year's ride is planned for Saturday, Sept 3rd. They're offering a "63-mile challenge ride." They had the event last year, too.

Here's the map for the challenge ride: http://www.mapmyride.com/routes/fullscreen/41250708/

And here's the event website: http://swagger.gobike1.com/site/?page_id=589#6

Nope, that's quite a bit different, although same general area. The arrows I followed started/ended at the same park where the Swim/Bike transition is located and were only different from the Rev3 course in 3 small areas totaling about 8 miles. I followed them from start to finish and the distance worked out to 52 miles. I figure it's some other club or event's 50 mile ride, and it must be a really popular route since there were multiple sets of markings on the same intersections.

In any case, if you want to ride a close approximation to the Rev3 route, you can follow the blue arrows. If you want the exact route, you'll need to take a map, cue sheet or GPS to get those 8 miles correct.

Thanks for the Tour de la France links though, I may go down and do that ride on 9/3!

I'm riding the course this weekend. I have no idea if I'm intelligent enough to upload my Garmin data to compare routes. I'll keep you posted. A friend of mine is attempting to make a cue sheet.

On the fence for this one. This will be my first 'real' race; planning on doing the 32 miler. Entry fee seems high, but from reviews of the rev series should be a solid first experience for me. Someone help convince me...
