Looking for a good 5k in December thats PR-able. Thought this one looked good and I checked out the course profile someone had already put together on Map my Ride.  Looked like it is .12 long with some steep grades. That could have been from another year, though. Any inside info?

I know where a PR-ble 5k is in December.  The two problems are that is is not timed with chips and it is in Madison which is about 60 miles from Atlanta.  It is almost completely flat.  It is on Dec. 11 if you are interested.  You can find it on Actiive.com.

Last year was the first year for this event.  It was .12-.13 long.  If memory serves, it had something to do with finish line placement & the City of Alpharetta. The RD explained it before the start.  I only remember one super steep grade, but there were definitely some other hills on the course.

That said, it's a very family-friendly, fun event that supports a great cause (Toys for Tots).

This is not a PR course. I ran it last year. The course was long and there is the longest hill I have ever had to run up in a 5k. There were other hills but I only remember the one long one that I think is the highest elevation point in the area.

I've run Jingle Jog and that one is hilly too and I ran that 2 minutes faster than the LTF course.  I think Polar Bear in Jan though is your best bet for a PR.

Wow, the hill is longer than the one in the Jingle Jog? That hill seemed to go on, and on.

If you don't mind driving, there's one in Monroe this Saturday that I'm doing.  It's called something like Willie's Winter Wonder 5k.  Starts at 2pm (which I like becasue I run better in the afternoons).  PR'd last year (until I beat it in March). Very small, but chip timing.

I checked my log to see what I wrote for the race last year.  I have that it was 3.3 miles and the hill I am referring to is at the start of mile 3.  I have my time as 23 minutes and I that is almost 3 minutes slower than my Pr.

To ColdFire. The bad hill in Jingle Jog is early in the race after a long downhill and yes that hill is shorter than I remember the LTF hill.

There was timing for this race but it wasn't a timing mat at the start so timing was from gun time. Made no sense to me.

I still had fun at this race. I was 4th place girl and won the costume contest. So for me any race I come home with extra swag is a good race.

Cool, thanks for all the info!!

Nealphelps- what is the name of the December 11th one? Sounds interesting though it may be too soon

Jessica- This Sat is Definitely too soon but thanks for the info!

Mila- do you know if the course is going to be the same this year? It sounds like a fun race and great cause but I just want to know what I would be in for w the course!

Natalie- I agree the PB 5k is one of the best. My current PR is actually from there last year. This past Sat I ran a 5k about 10 secs slower than that, though I am carrying 5 extra lbs of holiday weight and haven't been running but once or twice a week since IM WI.

Soooo my goal is to try and really get those 5-10ks down this winter and I am aiming for a race every 6 weeks or so to test my progress.

Coldfire- thanks for the Jingle jog info. I will avoid that one for now!

My church (St. James Episcopal in Marietta) puts on a 5k the first Saturday after New Year's that is a PR able course. I think its on Active.com....Wonderful Days of Winter 5k. The proceeds go to fund our free Preschool for underpriviliged children and as well as a hot meal for them everyday (often the only one they get).

Let me know if you need anymore information.
