This is beyond bogus ... I want to punch this race in the face. Cry

Same here.

So how are people going to get to T1 from the corrals?  Barefoot?  Sneakers?  With all this rain, West Potomac Park will be a big mud pit.

EFFF THIS.  2nd race of the summer eff'd up due to weather.  I'm from NY.  Not planning on going to hedge my losses on hotel, gas, food, etc.  It would've been fun.

They'll time trial it. Groups of 12 at the swim end mat and your time starts when you step on that mat.

Great, so it's really a Muddy T1-Sprint, Bike, Run.

I think the Muddy Buddy series just found a new race.

Why just cancel the swim?  Don't they have a back-up plan?  I understand run-bike-run is not ideal to some, but the Philly Tri pulled that off having to cancel the swim the morning of because police were still trolling the river for the body of a lost swimmer from the sprint the day before.

With a strong down stream current, why not make it a point-to-point swim?  NYC does it and everyone has PB swim times.

And at least throw me a bone here, like a 33% discount on the entry fee for next year.

While you're here, go and check out Great Falls. Its a pretty awesome site when the Potomac River gets really high. Hopefull its not so high that they have the observation deck closed.

Is anyone worried that the "specific, credible threat" that has emerged will lead to a heightened  terror alert and thus the cancellation of mass gathering events (i.e the Nations Tri)?

I am starting to grow concerned about heading to DC for the race at all.  I should have thought this out a little more clearly before registering.  I just let the terrorists win, didn't I?

The river is so bad they can't even get their crews out to put up a dock, buoy's etc.  Unfortunately there is no other body of water around here you can get 7-10k people in.  The RD posted over on ST they are probably also going to have to re-route the run due to flooding on Haines Point.  From his description though sounds like you might get a better view on the run course since it will be routed around HP.

This is one of the craziest weeks of rain I can remember in this area.  Schools are closed due to flooding, Fed Gov't is on Liberal Leave/telework today.  I'm impressed they are actually going to be able to do the race at all.

DC Officials have already announced that they are NOT canceling any events.

Nope. That's not even a consideration to me.

I rode at Hains Point last night and the southern tip was starting to flood, with water well into the road on the eastern (tidal basin) side and water into the grass a few feet from the road on the western bank (VA side). I would not be surprised a portion of the run has to be re-routed.

Be glad the swim has been cancelled. The current is very strong right now, and with all of the flooding this week the bacterial levels are probably not safe.

I was jogging along the Mt. Vernon trail by the airport this morning, there was TONS of debris in the chocolate-colored water, fast current.  Like SC said, be glad the swim has been canceled.

I'm really wondering about the condition of the race course with the amount of debris from the storms and how it will be for the bike and run.  My guess is that the transition area is going to be a huge mud field.  Guess I'll find out when I go to packet pickup later.  Hopefully, they will have a good assessment and some info.

Talked to a few people at packet picket.  They said transition area is pretty wet, but it might improve with some sun tomorrow, but it will be squishy.  The course briefer stated Hains Point was still the plan, but some parts might resemble a steeple chase.  If the RD decided a change was necessary, the briefer mentioned they had a 2 loop course in mind.

Anybody heard anything about the guy who was down and getting CPR around mile 19?  Didn't look good when I went by, hope he made it.

Had a great time and pretty good race!  I'm sure I saw some BTers and didn't know it.  I am pretty sure I was the only participant wearing a bright red BEEF shirt, so maybe someone saw me (probably going slow).  I would definately consider coming back to DC for this race, hopefully as a triathlon and not a brick.

I am looking to do my first Oly this year and am looking at the Nations Tri as being the one.  I am concerned about the river swim, how hard is the up river portion of the swim?  Any thoughts would be appreciated.
