Pre-race routine:

Woke up and drove the course. It was dry and a tad. FOund my transition spot and hung out and talked with some friends.
Event warmup:

Ran a mile and a half with my friend Michael. Took off the jacket and headed to the start to get ready to run.

Comments:

Started out front and 6 guys went out really fast. They moved way out front within the first mile. I had 3 guys pulled in behind me and then they moved ahead. I tucked in with them and ran with my friend Justin for a bit. He then moved ahead and we caught 3 of the guys in front by the dirt path section. Justin was about 20 seconds ahead. I caught 2 more guys and was now in 5th place. Held strong and kept Justin in sight. He wss in the fat tire division so I wasn't worried about him. SO I had 4 guys ahead of me in the open division. I thought I was first in my agegroup but it was hard to tell agegroups with all the hats and stuff on people.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing I ran well, beat last years time by almost 2 minutes.
Transition 1
  • 01m 38s
Comments:

Put on warm gloves, helmet and bike shoes. Ran the bike to the exit and began my ride. I had gotten out before my friend Justin.

Comments:

Wanted to stay steady on the way out and push hard on the way back. That is what I did! I was 5th place with no one ahead of me that I could see until the turn around. I saw that everyone was several minutes ahead of me and that I would not catch them. I saw one guy behind me until the turn around where I began to push hard and didn't see him again until I finished. Weird to not have anyone to key off of so I just pushed as hard as I could. Pretty good efort just 2 weeks from IMAZ.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing, great ride.

Warm down:

Rode a bit to spin out the legs.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Nothing really. Didn't feel fatigued.

Event comments:

THis is a 3 race series so I am in 3rd so far. The 2 guys that beat me were 1.2-2 minutes ahead of me. THe next 2 races are very different format so I hope I can make up ground.

That is funny.  I was the person behind you.  Nice riding on the way back.
