Veteran 478 Hoosier heartland | Subject: RE: 2011 Tri-Indy? Registration does not appear to be available yet. I'm sure Tri-Indy will take place the beginning of August. It's been successful for the past three years and keeps growing. You might just wait till the first of the year and you can check with Trifind.com or tuxbro.com to get the latest on registration information. Hope this helps. If anyone else has any "inside" info, feel free to chime in. Tri-Indy is a great triathlon to get your feet wet. The canal is pretty fun to swim in. Are you thinking about doing the Du, Sprint, or Oly? There are several triathlons in the Indy area that are great for newbies: Carmel Sprint Triathlon in the spring Indianapolis Sprint triathlon series at Eagle Creek Tri-Indy FAST (fishers area sprint triathlon) in September Muncie multi sport triathlon series just to name a few. Good luck. Triathlon is fun. |

52 | Subject: RE: 2011 Tri-Indy? Thanks for the info. I was wanting to do the OLY in Cincinnati the week before. Since I'm unsure of recovery times I don't know if it's a realistic goal if it is I might try it otherwise I might just do the sprint in Cincy and the OLY in Indy. Any thoughts? |

If you want to make the Oly your A race, than I would consider doing the Sprint as a good practice day in preparing for the Oly. If you prepare and train for the Oly, than you should be able to recover in time for the bigger race. Good Luck! |

Just take it easy & mind your rest/nutrition the week between the races. And cggale hit the highlights of the better central IN tri's. Carmel Tri (April) is well-run season opener- although weather can be chilly. Eagle Creek Park is beautiful setting for tri's held there. Tri-Indy is lots of fun in a unique urban setting. It's crazy having cheering fans along the canal during your swim. |

I was looking at the layout for the Carmel tri how well do the lanes in the pool work in reguard to passing if needed? |

Also, I can't say enough good things about the Eagle Creek sprint series. They're great races for beginners. I haven't tried Carmel, so I don't know how they do the pool swim. |

If you prepare and train for the Oly, than you should be able to recover in time for the bigger race. Good Luck! [/QUOTE]I did the Carmel sprint tri as my first tri last spring. The pool is nice for beginners who want to get a feel of what a triathlon is without the anxiety of OWS. With that said, the pool swim for the Carmel tri is a serpentine (snake) swim in a 50 meter pool. It does get a little crowded, but typically passing people can be done by tapping their toes to let that person know you want to pass, and than pass on the left. We also started in a time trial fashion (about every 5 seconds). But even with that, the pool can get pretty crowded. Make sure you state a realistic time when you register for a tri that has the swim in a pool. Some people state a time too fast and then the pool gets really congested with swimmers. Overall it was a fun and great experience. But I have to say, the only thing I didn't like was waiting a loooong time to start the race. When you register, you state your swim time (how many minutes you can go per 100 meters). So if you're a good swimmer, you can start early. If you're slow, than you start much later. When I got done with my swim, the FOP swimmers where already done with the race!!!! LOL I appreciate the pointer. I can tell already this is a great community to belong to. 5 | Subject: RE: 2011 Tri-Indy? Hi, Brand new to this. I have a friend that has been trying to get me to start so here I go. I was thinking of trying an Oly this summer but would like to do a sprint first. Where is there info about the sprint in Cincinnatti? I live in Lexington KY so that would be pretty close. Thanks. P.S. Any words of advice for a newbie? I start training next week. |
