I've had a wart on the ball of my right foot for several years and haven't had any luck getting rid of it. I've used a pumice stone on it thinking I was really filing it away, then using Duofilm with no result. I've also tried the over-the-counter "freeze" products but the callous was too thick. I finally got tired of the pumice stone and its inability to remove tissue and used a coarse wood rasp and finally got down to the blackened wart. With the Duofilm used daily the wart is becoming more exposed. My question is, has anyone used the OTC "freeze" products with success? Did it leave an open wound/sore that prevented your working out? Should I stick with the Duofilm and possibly duct tape? No, I don't want to pay an MD to do it for me. Thanks

I saw a podiatrist for one on my footpad. I started bothering me a bit and i heard a horror story where someone actually had to to have surgery because it had dug itself in so deep. My dr. said that the over the counter stuff doesn't work because people don't shave down the skin around it enough to actually get the medicine to the wort.  If you think what you are doing is doing the trick, I'd say stick with it--I'm the one paying $20 a visit!

Her first treatment hurt pretty bad for the first couple days! I hope my next one won't be so bad.

I have one in the callus of the left thumb which has been very difficult to get rid of. Mediplast has helped. It's much higher percentage of salicylic acid than regular OTC wart pads. You wear them for 2 days on / 2 days off and eventually, the callus becomes soft enough to detach. Some of the wart comes with it.

I've also seen the dermatologist for liquid N2 treatments and have needed 6-8 of these to get there. Almost gone! Yeah, and it hurts when it heals over the course of 2-3 days. Imediate pain of treatment is easy because you kill nerve endings.

You can get mediplast from behind the pharmacy counter.

I had one on the ball of my foot a few years back. I rasped it down with a file, cut the black part out with a hunting knife (sterilized it), and burned what was left with a cigarette.........it never came back.

p.s. A bit of Wild Turkey will help with the pain.

I had one last year and I ended up having it surgically removed this past January.  I was out of commission for 2-3 days and then I could do the elliptical, swim, stair mill.  Somewhere in there I got a stomach bug.  All told, surgery + stomach bug, I was not on a normal training schedule for about 10 days.  I think that was a good trade off considering the pain I was in.

Thanks all! I'll try the mediplast next since this is more of an aggrevation than a debiliation at this point. I'll save surgery til last and then if desperation knocks I might think about the cigarette trick!

Merry Christmas!

A couple of years ago I had one in a really calloused area on ball of my foot.  This was the first wart I had ever dealt with and didn't realize what it was, but it was hurting during my spinning and biking especially when I was out of the saddle.  The Dr recommended to have it cut out because it was really deep.  He warned me that the shot to numb the area was going to really hurt and I didn't think too much of it at first because I had been getting cortisone shots in both feet for Morton's Neuroma but OMG, this shot hurt like hell, it was crazy!

Yes, the shot was definitely the worst part!
