Just noticed that the registration opened up for the 2011 Tundra Time Trial. I missed out on last year. Hopefully this will be my first stand alone time trial.

"In" ... signed up earlier this week.  This will also be my 9 yr old daughter's first race as she just started with Frazier Cycling (www.fraziercycling.com).

Time to start training as my last real ride was Six Gaps in September!

In!

Pretty pumped.  This is my 3rd bike race ever (1 road race, 1 crit).   I saw it's 10 miles, is it 5 miles out and back?  How if it's an out and back, how's the turn-around set up?

I've seen everyone talk about this for 3 years now, I had to get in on it.  I'm going to get runover, but I'm kinda stoked.

It is an out and back on the Silver Comet Trial.  The turn around is just a cone in the middle of the trail with people there.  Nothing fancy.  You will have to come to a complete stop but it's wide enough that you don't have to unclip or anything.  Just be in the right gear going into the turn.

Does anyone know what the exact distance was for 2009? I'm looking at the finishing times and am trying to figure out whether I would be competitive or not... but I've heard everything from "10 miles" to "just under 12" which would obviously swing the average speed around a lot.

The 2009 course, which was 9.5 miles, was different than the 2010 course, which was 12 miles.  While both courses were on the Silver Comet Trail, the latter course was better not only because it was longer but also due to more room in the starting area for what has now become a pretty sizable crowd.

Based upon an e-mail exchange with the RD the new course is here to stay and therefore presumably the increased distance.

Your Tundra finishing time is all relative to where you are in your training; nothing more, nothing less.  Plenty of "slow" people at the Tundra end up on the podium at late season races.

The Tundra is less about your finishing time and more about getting motivated to get back into shape ...and getting off the @#$% trainer!  Aside from that, most triathletes I know use it as the 'real life' field test for their power or HR numbers.

Definitely worth the drive up for the event.

I'm signed up.  This will be my first TT (after several triathlons last year, which should be similar).
I found a great log of last year's race from a rider on connect.garmin.com.  It's 11.9 miles, out and back.  Pretty much up, down, up, down.  The grades are about 1.5%.  30 minutes is a good time, <28 and you are looking at the podium.  34m is reasonable.  I don't know anything about how tight it is, passing etc as I've never ridden out there, no less during a race.  Good luck everyone and ping me if you have a computrainer and would like the file of the race (I converted the garmin file so I could ride it virtually, and tried it out yesterday).

I guess I am in too. Just before the deadline.

What is proper clothing for the event? I know it will be cold (most likely) so any suggestions on TT clothing choices?

I created a Q&A for my athletes about the Tundra TT.  If anyone wants it, PM me.  I would post it here, but it's kinda long.

Note:  This is not a solicitation and it will NOT have any promotional info on it.  Just a simple word document

I havent heard anything, neither has a friend of mine.
I agree on the whole get there @ 8 am and not ride till noon.
I hear you should get there early though-to warm up, and many people bring and set up tents for warming up, friends, family, and teams.
Good luck to all, have fun-BE SAFE-don't ruin your year for 1 time trial.
