So, being in the military, they have decided to station me at Goodfellow AFB in San Angelo late August of next year.  I know that there is a decent Oly that is held there every year.  But outside of that race, are there any decent Sprint/Oly races close, (close being a relative term.  Saying "close" to a Texan means within 4 hours.  Close to me means 2 hours) taking place later in the year?

Right now, I'm planning on participating in the Oly in San Angelo, as well as the Austin Triathlon (Oly).  Haven't really thought too much beyond that.

Also, is there a tri-club in San Angelo?  I know of some cycling clubs...but haven't seen anything about a tri-club.

Thanks!

There are a bunch of races through out the year in Dallas/Ft Worth area.

jldicarlo is in the Air Force and lived in San Angelo.  She can probably give you all the info you need. http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/training/index-weekly.asp?memberid=7804

Just a slight correction...jldicarlo was at Dyess AFB in Abilene, not San Angelo, but Abilene is only aobut 1.5 hours away. Sadly, Abilene doesn't have much in way of triathlons that I am aware of.

You are actually in a pretty good spot for tri.  You have midland/odessa 2 hours a way that each host a sprint tri, Big Spring 1.45 away has a sprint, Abililene is close and has a couple.  4 hours away is Lubbock and they have 3-5 a year.  You are around 2-3 hours from Austin and San Antonio.  Even Alpine has a sprint at the local college.  Also, San Angelo has a pretty good running club that hosts a bunch of runs throughout the year.  I live in Midland.... San Angelo is a hidden gem.

Thanks for the heads up on the running club...I'll check it out when I get there.  I guess if there's not a tri-specific club there in SA, then I'll hit up the Masters swim program there at the Y, and maybe see if I can get involved in some group rides as well.

i'm in abilene (close to san angelo) and i think there are several good tri's in there.  i don't think they have a tri club but their running club sponsors several good events.  to get started, check out ironhead's site (http://www.ironheadrp.com/).  he has several events in san angelo.

Thanks for the info cbh!

I'm planning on doing the IRP Wool Capitol Triathlon this year.  Are you going to be coming down to San Angelo for that again this year?  I saw that you raced last year....

Everrything is tentative right now, but looking at the Wool Capitol, and Austin Oly right now.  Depending on timeline, might squeeze one sprint in before the Wool Capitol.  We'll see.  I'll message you up when I get into town in early August, deffinitely.

Deffinitely going to participate in this, but it'll have to wait until 2012 as I'm not going to be getting to SA until very late July/early August.
