bradaskins - 2011-02-10 10:24 AM Sweet! That's good news about the Hotel.  Bringing the whole family. We are going to make a weekend of it. Coming in Friday and leaving Sunday.

I'm doing the OLY on Sunday.  I'm really looking forward to the deep water start. It will be my first salt water swim...a little nervous about that.

I have a Volt sleeveless wet suit, do you think that will be fine?

Any other tips about preping for the salt water swim? I will be doing OW swimming between now and then, but I've read about chaffing in salt water, anything to be concern about?

yeah... salt water = connected to big ocean somewhere = probably currents somewhere.  don't make the same mistake so many people did last year and just jump in without thinking about this.  a little research right now can tell you pretty much whats gonna be going down on race day this year.  have fun, its a great race.

Will there be a required bike check-in the night before as was planned last year for the Olympic distance?

I'm pretty sure they ditched that... and the body marking the night before.  I seem to recall Aaron mentioning those changes a couple of months ago.  Good riddance to both.

Yes we did get rid of both. We had our reasons for trying it out but it just didn't work. We DO have optional bike check in on FRI for the Sprint and SAT for the International. They will be well guarded overnight. Just incase anyone wants to unload their bike the night before.

DONT FORGET THERE'S DISCOUNT REGISTRATION AT HOUSTON CYCLING CENTRES TODAY (SUN FEB 12) ALL DAY WHEN YOU BRING IN 10 CANS TO ANY OF THEIR 3 LOCATIONS!

I think I saw you are having a packet pick up the week before.  That would be perfect since my wife is doing Angies half crazy.  Have you set a location?

It will most likely be at either Houston Cycling Centres or My Fit Foods. We're not sure what location of either yet. More to come. Be sure to signup for our newsletter if you haven't yet. Don't spam it because once you're off it we can't add you back on. There's an E-Letter bi-monthly and as the race approaches that's how we send out updates and important downloads athletes need.

smilford - 2011-02-10 10:29 AM The only thing to prep for a salt water swim is to get use to the taste of salt water. If you're not it could make you a bit sick if you take in too much. But, once use to it, it seems to not affect people anymore.

No problem here, I put salt in just about everything.

I really expected more trash talk in this thread for the Ritter vs  Smilford battle of the gateway race...

I might go down there just to take some pics and cheer Ritter on  Tongue out

Me too! I've actually starting counting down the days. I thought a lot about it during a Du I did over the weekend.

off topic: go to http://www.wolframalpha.com/ and search for "4/3/2011 - today" you'll get some cool information about time until 4/3....I'm a dork, I know Embarassed

I'll be fine. I probably won't pass you on the bike anymore, because I will be beating you out of the water this year.
