Comments: Was first marathon after 141 pound weight loss over past year.I was not dressed for the weather, weather forcast was called for much warmer than it was,so I was dressed for a race in the upper 50's when it was 43 and drizzly, so I froze and never warmed up since I natural don't sweat. The first 21 miles was good and I kept it under 10 minutes miles. After that it started to hurt and I had to slow the pace down to a little over 10 minute miles. I managed not to walk any of it and that was my number 1 goal coming into this race. What would you do differently?: I got injured running a Thanksgiving Day half marathon a few week earlier. This injured kept me from running for 2 weeks, and I had to miss the 20 miler in my training run, so I went into this race a little under prepared. So not get injured, and dress appropriately for the weather. Post race
Warm down: Meet up with my family and got hugs. I was shivering and they were out of mylar blankets. My best friend informed me that many of the half marathoners had taken 2-3 mylar blankets each. Fortunately she had grabbed my jacket out of truck, so I put my jacket on and felt better, I hobbled over to the truck and we drove 2 and a half hours home. What limited your ability to perform faster: My foot injury, if I had not got injured weeks before the race I could have trained more and performed better. Last updated: 2010-10-31 12:00 AM
