Pre-race routine:

LATE - as usual, but this time it was due to parking. Got routed around the lake TWICE by the parking directors.
Event warmup:

RUN to pick up my bib number 7 chip. Probably a mile from where I parked. Parking Directors didn't think I'd make it, told me it was a mile and to try to flag down a bus en route. I ended up running it as the buses wouldn't stop.
Run
  • 57m 1s
  • 5 miles
  • 11m 24s  min/mile
Comments:

Wore a fleece for getting to the start and wanted to have it on me for after the race. But had no time to bag check, so I ended up running w/ it on. Was hot right away and still didn't take it off til the first mile. Tied it around my waist.
What would you do differently?:

BE ON TIME, not have to run a mile before the race even starts.
Post race
Warm down:

Crowded. If you like a fun festive race atmosphere this was great. I get a little clausterphobic in crowds and just really wanted out of there.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

my 2x/week "5 mile" route is really just short of that, and completely flat. I need to either run longer for those medium runs, or find a hillier route. It's the same route I run longer on 1x per week on weekends, and 3x per week for shorter runs. So I really never get any hills in. I do LIKE the flat terrain, and the complete lack of traffic or intersections since it's a park trail and not really out on the road. But I probably need to graduate for at least some runs per week.

Event comments:

good - for running. I HATE running!

Performance: Good
HIGH heart rate for a slow run time, not sure what's up w that: Max185, Avg 175
Course: Not completely flat, but no real hills either. I just mostly run on the flattest trail EVER so everything that's even SLIGHTLY inclined feels like a hill.
