Maybe I missed this in the previous threads about Warrior Dash, but they have one in NC next year (Aug. 27th, 2011): http://www.warriordash.com/register2011_carolinas.php#

I hadn't planned on it, but if I don't build up to a half like I'd like, this would be a fun diversion. I thought about taking Amtrak and biking (or bike/bus) the 15 miles to the race. Heck, that might ne good endurance training; 30 mile bike with a Warrior Dash dropped in the middle. Not sure I'd be willing to risk biking from downtown Charlotte through unfamilar areas, though.

Oh yeah! I wanted to do this race in GA last year, but it didn't work out. Logistically this is much better for us Charlotteans and I for one am in! In the process of recruiting others as well! Can't wait to take on the 3.08 hellish miles! It falls right in between my last Sprint and 1st Oly in Pinehurst...hopefully I'll be ready by then!

Me and some of my Tri Club are in!

I did GA last year and glad to have one closer to home this year.  Here I am covered in mud coming into the finish line chute.  I have a whole photo album in my log.

I am so in now!

Is there a particular start time that is best for those who have done these? I see they have staggered starts.

Yes, there is.  Just ask yourself how soon you want to be drinking beer?  The sooner you finish, the sooner you can indulge!!!  (I would not recommend drinking prior to the race)

And it's fun watching everyone who races after you.  Plus you can strut around covered in mud wearing your warrior helmet with a beer in one hand and a turkey leg in the other scowling at those who are still clean.

One more note about racing early... the course gets more and more messed up throughout the day.  So really, the course is somewhat of a changed course by the time the last waves go through.  The mud pit becomes longer due to all of the trampling out of it etc.

I registered for 11:30 a.m. (the second wave).  Didn't want to be first!

Oh.. and a note about watching the first wave go... last year the first finishers came out in 15 minutes!  So that was a clear indicator that the course was shorted.  I was able to talk to one of the fast finishers and he did comfirm a shorted course and told me a quick overview of it.  Then I knew what to expect for my turn.

Thinking about this one myself.  Fills a race void for me between Lake Logan and Augusta.

I'm also on the second wave, hope to meet some of you there.

Looks like a lot of fun. I'm trying to convince my 14yo son, but he thinks that anything is better than spend the day with me Cannot blame him but this time I think he will be missing ...

I know what you mean.  I wanted my son to particpate last year in GA but he was too busy with friends and work or an Anime' convention or something.

He's nearly 22 and lives in Raleigh at NC State.  I wonder if I could convince him this year since it's closer.  I guess it will depend on his class schedule.  I sure would love to share a racing experience with my son.  Or at least get him to join us for the camping trip.  But I think if I got him there, he'd want to do the course.

There is a Sprint that morning at Lake Norman and one of the guys I train with wants to combo that with the Warrior Dash in the afternoon.  Can anyone who has done the Warrior Dash please tell me if that is a mildly dumb or really dumb?  Thanks!

DO IT!  That sounds like a really fun day!

The Warrior Dash is not difficult at all; truly anyone can do it.  Just don't take it too seriously.  I made that mistake last year and missed out on enjoying the course.  Do not sprint through the course at race pace then make a beeline to the race results board (triathletes are programmed to do this).  No one cares.

Take your time, enjoy the obstacles, stop at the cameramen and pose silly for photos, cross the finishline, get your medal, then go drink beer and have a turkey leg and talk about how much fun you had all day.

My friend and I even considered sneaking through a second time (but didn't).  We thought if we took off the timing chip, washed off our mud, then mingled into the crowd at the starting line, that no one would notice and we could enjoy a second trip through!  Or for true endurance, keep going through as many times as possible!
