Like the previous poster, I did the HIM last year and I am doing the IM this year.

I agree with him about the transportation,  I found it was not a problem for athletes.  Transportation for spectators was a bit more of an issue, at least for the HIM.  (DH was great!  He collected my bike from T2 and brought to back to the car for me!)

Actually using a training plan this time - week 2 of 30 right now!

Starting slow though I am already feeling like I should go harder or I'll never finish! Wink

I have been training seriously since January cause I want to do a couple HIM before the full, but as I said before this is the perfect time to build base.

good luck!

I'm planning on an international distance sometime in June/July and a HIM in August or early September as a training event in the peak phase.

Good luck to you, too!

I completed an HIM in March.  Now I'm enjoying riding my bike.  A lot.

In December, I added a Felt B16 to my the road bike in my "stable."  (I wanted to sell the mtb but my husband adopted it as his backup bike.  Hey!  I was gonna put the money from selling the mtb towards race wheels!  Ah well...

I am participating in the Tour de Cure the first weekend of June and I have a few other cycling events planned, including Bike MS and the Capital to Coast ride from Raleigh to Wilmington.

I'm continuing to work on my running and swimming as well but for the short term, I am bike focused.

Our oldest dog went to the Bridge about a month ago.  Since then I've been making an effort to entertain our golden.  I've been running with her.  On Sunday I left a leash and clean up bag in my transition area, I did the bike portion of my brick and opened the front door and yelled, "Emma!" as part of the transition.  She seems to be enjoying it.

jmkizer - Sorry to hear about your dog!

But I like your transition idea. Practicing transition is part of my trainin gplan now at least once a week - I sucked big time last year!

Nice add to your stable! And oh yeah I need to sell one of my road bikes too. 2 years ago I wasn't cycling and now I have 2 roadbikes a mb and a tri bike... time to sell!

And how did your HIM go?

I thought the bike course was nice, relatively flat, roads fairly clean and in good shape - but I didn't see all of it. Better half did the full and the only bike related thing he complaint about were a couple cars that were super impatient and had to pass closely - guess you have a few of those at every race.

And how did your HIM go?

I did the Gator Half in March.  It went well and I was faster than I was for the B2B Half in the fall.

I primary reason for picking that HIM was it's proximity to my in-laws.  The event was small (no bells and whistles) and nice enough that I'd do it again.

You must be starting to gear up for Rock 'N RollMan -- how exciting!

Yeah, I have bricks at least once a week.  In the winter it's spin class + treadmill.  Today it's hill repeats followed by run...  Right now it's mostly longer bike, 10-20 minute run.  I know as we get closer it will be more like 45-60 minute bike + 90 minute run.

The outdoor pool at my gym opens in two weeks (just the lap pool for now).  I'm looking forward to other people using it and getting out of my way :-)

I thought that the bike course for the HIM was fine.  No chip seal that I recall.  In fact, I was faster than I expected to be based on my training.  I really really enjoyed the section in I-140.  FAST!  Woo Hoo!

I had more of an issue with one of the bridges on the run than I did with the bike.  One of the bridges is steel grid decking.  My feet were sufficiently tender from the bike for this surface to bother me on the run.

I guess if we were smart we would organize a training ride to do the section that we have not already seen -- Blueberry Road to 210 to 421 would be a loop that we could do.  The Blueberry Road leg was on the HIM but the 210 and northern 421 sections were not.

BTW, if anyone knows of a relay team looking for a cyclists, I have someone here in Raleigh that is interested.  He's having a hard time finding a swimmer and runner to join him.

He's fast -- like he did a 23mph ride last night fast.

Nice! congrats!

Oh I wish - I think I'll only do the sprint at the Rock 'n Roll man  - I have been knocked out most of the winter and only started training again last week really. Couldn't even do the marathon I had planned for end of march

I'll try finding a HIM more towards the end of June or beginning of July.

I can imagine your pool situation and must say - this year I want to do open water swims every other weekend beginning in May.

A training ride sounds like a good idea! Just don't tell me you want to do that the day before the race! All I want to do the day before the race is some jogging and getting every muscle massaged Smile

No seriously, when were you thinking?

I'm going for my stack/reach measurements today in prep for a new bike...My faithful K-Factor has 10k miles under the wheels and I guess it's time. One thing about dropping this kind of cash is it re-commits me for another few years of racing, psychologically speaking.

Considering: Parlee, Kuota, Cervelo, Valdorra(if there were a dealer around), ???. I'll know more about which are the suitable candidates after today...Breathless Anticipation.

Woohoo! Exciting! I don't know much about any of the bikes and I think a lot of it is personal preference. Our household is loyal to Cannondale We both have a Slice and are both really happy with it!

I was just registering for B2B 2011 and there is a discount code box, does anyone know who is eligible for the discount? I'd hate to miss it if I could get the discount.
