thecatch83 - 2010-12-28 12:42 AM Well, the reason why most running magazines and nutritionists agree that chocolate milk is a great recovery tool is because it is high in protein, vitamins, low in fat, and the sugar helps transport those nutrients through insulin elevation for optimal post workout recovery.  I wouldn't consume high amounts of soy protein for men (way, casein, or meat proteins are better) but a glass now and then won't hurt. I also use Muscle Milk light protein shakes 3-4 times a week after tough workouts, it tastes great and it's lactose free!

This is an old wives tale and not supported by current science. Soy protein isn't any worse for you than whey protein and in fact has a couple of additional amino acids that are useful and have anti-oxidant properties. It's tough to break through the whey-protein hype to get the information though.

To answer this question you should read the ACTUAL study, which fails to explain anything and was commissioned by people who benefit from the more milk you drink.

Not linking because if you blindly accepted this as a fact without your own research you need help with motivation and google.

I like beer for recovery. One beer. Sam Winter Porter, for instance. (I don't think they make Soy beer.)

I own 1% of a soy bean farm.  Drink it up, people!

Soy gives you man boobs, so that makes sense for you.

I will gladly exchange melon presses for man boob presses simultaneously of course ...

To the OP:  bit o' (preferably) high-glycemic carb, little less bit o' protein post-hard or long workouts ... so whatever that is, drink/eat/nom it up.

I can't believe nobody has fingered a POP TART WITH MILK as the perfect recovery combo. You people.

Actually 8th Continent Soy Milk and others have 8 grams of protein as well. Vegetable protein is easier to absorb than animal protein as it is easier to break down so it acts more quickly. HOWEVER the down side for males is the amount of estrogen in Soybeans. Studies have been done and of course are conflicting as to wether or not Soy Isoflavins impact male health in some notable studies they have been found to reduce the risk of prostate cancer. Like everything we consume in life you can find pros and cons. Just be careful and find one that is non GMO. Like 8th Continent soy

I switched from Milk to Soy in my cereal every morning. It hasn't had any noticeable effect on my libido.

A gallon of chocolate milk (2%) is $3.99 and sometimes $3.49 at Safeway here in California. You can't beat the price even if most times I don't end up finishing it all before it goes bad. My husband and I drink it after workouts. Tastes good and is wayyyy less expensive than recovery drinks that are heavily marketed.
