Subject: Is a Polar HR band ANT+ ?
Now I jus hope that I phrased the question in the correct manner, as I am very confused by the alphabet soup terminonolgy that is HR monitors

OK in plain English.
I have a Polar Hr monitor and will be upgrading to a Garmin 310 XT as soon as I convince my wife that it will make the world a better place (well for me anyway)

Will my Polar HR belt work with the Garmin, it works with all the Gym equipment at my local gym so I asume it is a ANT+ hr belt

thanks

No.

As far as I know, all of Polar's stuff uses their own proprietary system.

Edit: as far as gym equipment goes, a lot of it is made by Polar, or supports the Polar protocol.

No, Polar uses its own proprietary protocol. But getting an ANT+ HR strap can't be a deal breaker... especially since the Garmin strap is near impervious to electric distortion (think riding next to a power line...) which pretty much always throws off the Polar strap...

Polar is Analog.  You'll need a Ant+ strap for the Garmin.  Suunto makes a dual strap both Analog and Ant +

Just a minor note, that you can choose between buying the 310XT with the HR strap, and without it.  If you simply pickup the HR strap on the side, it's about $30, whereas in the bundle it usually raises the price about $50-60.

However, the HR strap on the side gives you two choices: Classic strap, or pre-2010 Premium Soft Strap.  The pre-2010 Premium Soft Strap does cause some (not all) people some problems (as does the classic for that matter).  The 2010 new Premium Strap that is only available with a bundle right now (including newer 310XT's), largely solves all strap dropout/spike problems.

Anyway...probably more than you wanted to know...
