Extreme Veteran 3177 | Subject: I-gadget food tracking apps Just wondering what apps people use for tracking food/calorie input. I have been using one called tap and track for the last few weeks just to see what I am actually eating and I have found it easy to use and mostly accurate on how many calories my foods have in them. I tend to overestimate serving size/calories though if it is not some form of pre-packaged food to make sure I am not under-estimating it. It also allows me to input basic exercise data which estimates calories burned based on my height, weight, gender, and exercise intensity but I tend to underestimate that amount. |

Extreme Veteran 469 Albany, NY | Subject: RE: I-gadget food tracking apps I use Calorie Counter by Fat Secret. Its great. Has a bunch of popular and even not-so-popular brands, including generic supermarket brands, on there. Includes restaurants and has had most of the food I've been looking for. Also has a weight tracker & you can log activities. There is also the website that you can link to with your screen name. I have a blackberry, not sure what else it is available on. Oh, and its free |

Even foreign ones - good for me I guess So far I haven't had to add anything. You can also track workouts and your weight loss. Oh and it was a free app. It's got 4 1/2 stars out of 5 on Itunes. Hi Lynne! I will have to take a look at that one. Sounds like it does a lot of what this one does already but maybe it has some advantages too. Most foods have been on here and since most of my food is home made it is hard to have those built in (sure I could look up a tuna melt but I guarrantee it wont be like what I make at home). so I need ones that are easy to use as well. Thanks! |

Extreme Veteran 567 Rochester, NY | Subject: RE: I-gadget food tracking apps I've just started to use the app called Lose it! You set up a goal weight that you want to get too and it calculates how many calories you can eat a day in the time you choose to lose the weight. so you can put in you weight each day, and during the day you can put in all the foods you eat. It allows you to add custome foods. It seems pretty easy to add stuff and I've added a few customer foods. Once you get them in then you can just choose them from your list. It also allows you to put in exercise as well and gives you a daily count of what you eat compared to what you burned It's the only one I've used on the iTouch to this point. |

Lose It! is hands down the best iPhone app out there the custom food and previous meals alone save a ton of time. There's about 6 of us at work that have tried all the iPhone ones and came to the same conclusion. |

Does it need WiFi to work or is it offline? |

Does it need WiFi to work or is it offline? It has a piece that you can set up to create a Lose it! account but I haven't done that. Everything is stored on the itouch and should work on the iphone as well. I was going to work on setting up an account maybe it uploads data not sure though. It's been nice everytime I'm eating I just plug in the foods I'm eating at the time. I don't have to be next to my pc or if I'm out and about I just plug it in at the time. |

Oh, and its free I also use this application. I agree, it works well. There is a LOT of food in their database, and using the camera on my cell I can scan a barcode to find items. It also links with your account on fatsecret.com where you can see more nutritional data. I have an android phone. |

Is this "the daily plate" or something else entirely? I've used "the daily plate", accessing from a PC, but never used an iphone app for my tracking....I just keep scrap paper in my pocket until I get in front of a computer! |
