Just registered for the race today. Feedback from those who did it last year? I'm going to check out the race reports later.

I originally was going to make Philly Insurance Tri my "A" race but have some international business travel the week before, so I have this race as my new target race (just before I get on the plane).

I enjoyed it.  The course is different than the Sept Nation's Tri in that it runs more downtown and the finish has the nation's capitol in the background, nice photo.  Also, they now have clinics:

Facebook has some discussion too:

Be prepared for the heat! It can get very hot in D.C. in June.

Take advantage of the resources available on the run course, including the ice water, the cold towels and the sports drink. I don't remember if they handed out carb gels. I think they did, but all I can remember is grabbing the cold, water-soaked towels and putting them on my head or shoulders. And dumping cups of ice into my cap and putting it on my head.

So by far, the biggest challenge will be keeping cool, especially on the run. At least it's only Olympic distance.

The swim course is very well marked, with very large orange buoys every 100 meters. Each buoy also indicates the distance swam, 100m, 200m, etc. It still helps to use Memorial Bridge to sight.

The bike course isn't too bad. There are a few rolling hills but nothing too tough. Last year, we had to ride two loops of the course.

There is a sprint race too. Even so, the total field is quite a bit smaller than the super-large Nation's Triathlon in the fall. I expect that the organizers will try to expand the field for WDC Tri this year, but that's just a guess. They manage to get over 4,000 people out there for Nation's. I don't see why they couldn't get a similar number for WDC.

After you finish, I highly recommend the frozen pomegranate slushies offered in one of the tents at the finish area. Very welcome on a hot, muggy June day in Washington. Especially if you've just finished racing a triathlon.

With less than 3 weeks to go, the heat this week reminds me of last year.  I'm hoping it's like it was for the ITU in 2009.

Bib numbers and swim waves are available.

I listened to the online briefing, and the swim start is different this year.  Time trial start with groups of 8 entering the water and immediately starting the swim.

I wonder how many swim waves there are then?  I'm in wave 7, and it says I start at 6am.  I'm happy to be going early, but a lot a people will be swimming over me.  Be kind!

What are they basing the time trial on? I don't recall giving an estimate.

The swim waves are based on age group and gender.  So, everyone in your wave is also in you AG and the same gender as you!

What I meant was that according to the video, groups of 8 will start every 10 seconds.  Based upon gender and age.

I'm in wave 12 and it says I start @ 6:00am.  So...guess I'll just have to be ready.

I'm driving in from Virgina and will probably try to Park in Lot A,B, or C @ the Jefferson Memorial. If that is full, any ideas about where to park?

That is my plan as well.  If those lot's are full, I think my plan will be to park at the Old Convention center parking lot and take the shuttle over to the transition area.

Hmmm...thinking about all these logistics is already making me tired.

Where to park tomorrow during packet pickup and again during bike dropoff.

Where to get dropped off in the morning (looks like 23rd by Lincoln Memorial is a good bet).

What to pack in the gear bag since finish is so far away from transtion.

The list just seems to go on and on.

And the recent and pending rain mean extra water and other stuff in the river....

Yeah, this is bumming me out. How do you not get a park permit?

Sadly, I can't take any of the transfers they're offering, so I'm just wondering how long it will take them to mail me a check. I was really looking forward to this too...
