Illinois SUCKS!!

Extreme Veteran  312 |  Subject: Illinois SUCKS!!I have to get this rant off my chest! Illinois truly sucks as a state. I have lived here my entire life and really wish that I got out before my kids were in school. The Governor a state congress just decided to raise income tax 75% - from 3% to 5.25%! We are one of the worst states for education, there is TONS of corruption, and now they need more of our money. Pat Quinn, the Gov, ran on a pledge of raising taxes 1% to 4% which I felt is necessary. Now we see he lied and more than doubles it - what a joke!! On top of that my local sales tax rate is 10% - and this is applied to virtually everything you buy in IL. AMAZING & DISGUSTING!!! |

I 100% believe that if Cook County were sliced off and sent into the middle of Lake Michigan to be its own state, the rest of Illinois would be just fine. I grew up in the Springfield-area. I don't know where you're located, but believe me, I think we got it worse than anybody since it's the capital. Chicago politicians act so high and mighty in Springfield, and nobody in Springfield cares about them. Take the hint! This is why I live in Wisconsin now! /rant over |

However because a very large chunk of the population lives in King County, and many are on the poorer/less advantaged side, they always vote for the politician who is going to spend the most on their social services (not that they are not needed but we could cut a ton of red tape from the system, not raise taxes, and be able to help more people.) I think eastern washington wants to split the state in two and become their own tax base even. |

Having said that, don't come here and ruin it for us now I like C'DA but Boise is to close to my Ex who live in the Nampa/Caldwell area. Not to mention no jobs in my field and probably none in my wifes. I think you are safe for now! |

I did not realize Ill. did not have the initiative system so that is a big difference, though in fairness only recently have many of those been useful in shooting down tax hikes and such. We almost had an income tax but luckily people were smart enough to not vote it in. COL is pretty high on the west side of the state though which is another concern/issue that gets bantered about a lot by my friends/aquaintances. |
