I'm in and also looking for hotel suggestions.  I'll be by myself, so don't want to pay $200-300 per night.  I'm guessing I'll need to stay a little further out.  What areas would be good and easy to catch public transportation in on race morning?

Hi there. I ran the Chicago marathon in 09 and 10. In 09 I got there 30 minutes before the gun. This was nice because the lines for the bathrooms are super long and you are going to want to use them before the race starts. Also, there are a lot of people trying to get into the start line and be in the seated corral they chose. However, we were standing around for a bit and it was 30 degrees out, so that sorta of sucked. In 10, we got there like 10 minutes before the gun and still had enough time to do all we needed, but did feel a bit rushed. So I would say 20-25 minutes works. It's a great experience if this is your first Chi-Marathon. Congrats and good luck!Wink

My apologies if this next question qualifies as thread-jacking, but where is everyone at in their preparations?  Has everyone started training?  Are you all logging 40+ mile weeks already?

I have a plan, but I'm curious to hear what others are doing as I don't get much feedback or smalltalk from my treadmill in the basement.  :-

I haven't yet.  I'm considering trying something new for this marathon to make it interesting, but if I just decide to run it/train for it like always, I'll start mid june for my volume build.

If I decide to test my physicality running this marathon with a twist, I'll need to start in March most certainly.

I'll be following a Pfitzinger plan and will start "official" training the last week of April.  The long run the first weekend is 11 miles though, so I'm working on building back up to that between now and then.  I did IMFL in November and have just been doing what I want since then.  Did a half marathon the end of January, but mostly running 4-5 miles at a time right now.

I am trying a new plan from runners world that uses time along with distances.  I am sceptical about the jumps in mileage and how at the end you magically run faster than you trained but I like the idea of saying I want to break 4 hours and then seeing what you should be able to run each day in....

I signed up for both Milwaukee and Chicago yesterday.  There are currently 17k men registered and 13k women.  I am planning on running Milwaukee for time and Chicago for fun since Milwaukee is the week before.
