Anyone ever done this cycling event? If so what did you think of it? My OH and his boss are trying to get me to do it..but its a week after Pikes Peak Marathon and Im not sure if I can handle it or not. So any help or insight would be great.

I've done it 5 or 6 times though it has been years. I say do it.I say also arrange your housing now! Get up very early and be at the starting line early. By at the line I mean as close to the line as you can, not 1/4 mile back. Go ahead and let the lead pack get you out of town at 30 mph you will be on the road with 10,000 crazy people, I mean cyclists, and will be safer to the front. After the group strings out it will be better.

Be very cautious about leaving your bike unattended at the finish area.

I had mine stolen adn the cops did not really care.  They also said they had about 20 stolen every year.

Had I realized they had a bike check in for about $3, I would have walked my bike over there.

I've done it two years in a row now and it's really a very flat course. Then again, I grew up in Seattle where there are real hills. Ask a Texan if it's flat lol

It is a fairly flat course, a few long gentle climbs. "Windier-N-Hell" might be a better name some years.

Thank you all for your help! I really appreciate all the info.  I'm sure that my OH and I will end up doing this event I am just glad to have a little insight to exactly what I am getting myself into.

i live here in wichita falls and did my first one last year... it was a blast... the last ten miles coming from Burkburnett sucks... there is a non-stop south wind in your face... we call it our invisible mountain...

Yep, that last 10 mi stretch before turning back to the west into town was a suffer-fest...  Totally agree on getting towards the front...  I would also suggest skipping the first couple of rest stops... I think we hit the 30mi rest stop in about 1:15 and they were the easiest miles of the day!

Do the race, you will not  regret it!
