Sunny
Total Time = 1h 16m 55s
Overall Rank = 60/389
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 9/61
Pre-race routine:

Tried to stay cool and hydrate. Race day nutrition was basic light fare: yogurt, water, etc. It was a late start which was a little unfortunate given the unexpected heat and humidity for late September.
Event warmup:

Light jog. Wet suit. Swim
Swim
  • 15m 3s
  • 880 yards
  • 01m 43s / 100 yards
Comments:

Rankings were not provided for the individual events. Lots of chop on the course with the majority of the swimming going into a headwind. You had to pay attention to sighting and course. It was easy to pushed off course by the conditions. It looked like a lot of people were having trouble sighting due to the chop.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. The swim felt great.
Transition 1
  • 00m 59s
Bike
  • 32m 36s
  • 14.4 miles
  • 26.50 mile/hr
Comments:

Felt pretty good Definitely my fastest performance but the course was pretty easy. It was easier being in the first wave because you one lap of very little bike traffic. As the laps progressed, more and more bikers entered the course. Etiquette at the corners varied and could be very dangerous. You will not win this race on the corners so turn carefully and be aware of the riders around you.
Transition 2
  • 00m 47s
Comments:

Started feeling the heat immediately coming off the bike. Heart rate jacked up to the 170's and wouldn't settle. I knew the run was going to be tough.
Run
  • 27m 27s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 08m 50s  min/mile
Comments:

I was feeling the heat and could not push the run and expect to finish. My heart rate wouldn't settle down. There wasn't much I could do except keep putting one foot in front of the other.
What would you do differently?:

Needed water at every mile marker on the run course given the heat of the day and start time during the "heat of the day."

Event comments:

Not a great bike course. Fairfield could offer a much better bike experience. But overall I would participate again. I'm very happy with a top 100 finish. Will use it to build on.
