Can i tell you how yummy my Haddock was on Friday night. It was awesome, and that beer was much larger than i woulda thought, but i manned up and drank it, cause you know, leaving beer in a glass is alcohol abuse!!!

So great to see the Mass Mafia, thanks for making my weekend special as always, you guys rock!!

I might even have to eat my own words and do this race again next year...but lets not get ahead of ourselves, i still hurt like a bag of smashed...well...you know....

slackjaw5 - 2011-06-20 10:51 AM You're a triathlete! doing a Half Ironman!  you keep going, if you are physically able, and you don't stop until they pull you off the course!  That's what you do! What is with the belly aching?!

x2

I crashed on the bike at mile 30-35... rode without water for a while, and I couldn't run after mile 8 because I was in pain...

BUT I FINISHED...

You were given the same opportunity to finish as everyone else.

How is that true in the least? I was told I would have "2 1/2 or 3" hours, when I actually would have had 4 1/2? Can you explain how that's the same opportunity?

The difference is that you chose not to continue. The people who were out there +8.5 hours later *still* kept on going - despite the odds that the timing equipment would still be up. I want to high-five them all, including the RD!

I have a photo of that beer. It looks like a 40oz beer!!

Yeah, I am keen on doing this race again next year.

I had that Haddock too when I saw yours, and it was yummy.  The beer is all you.  I hope you enjoyed some after the race.  By the time I finished you prolly had a 6 pack  down the hatch.  So great seeing you guys!

I watched you finish, saw how happy you were with you hands in the air, it was cool, hopefully Randy got a good pic, if not i am sure Capstone did, they always take great pics.

Only had one beer at that point, it was hot and i was pretty sore already and had no appetite.

I was with +10/-10 minutes of my target time before the race, but as I said before DNF didn't cross my mind at all... There is always a next time

I’m the RD. The published cut-off time for the bike was 1:00pm. We officially adjusted this to 1:15pm based on starting the race 15 minutes late and then decided to extend this to 1:30pm.

We’ve had cut-off times every year and enforce them at our discretion. We understand that completing the event is a big achievement and we don’t want stand in the way of someone accomplishing their goal but at some point we clearly need to draw the line.

You were in the wave that was sent off at 7:50am and you came back on the bike at about 1:15pm based on your 5:24 time through T2. I’m not sure who you spoke to when you came in on the bike but it wasn’t me. I was monitoring the Bike In from 1:15pm until the last rider came in at 1:40pm. That last rider was prevented from continuing.

The times from Saturday and years past show we have let people go past the cut-offs published on the SME site. We will continue to have cut-off times that are enforced in a way that we think is fair, safe and in the best interest of our athletes and our volunteers.

I need to amend my last post as I just spoke to a member of my team who correctly reminded me that we did talk at the conclusion of your bike (it was a long couple of days so some details can get a little muddled). We discussed the timing of the cut-off but we also discussed the heat and our concerns with you continuing and mutually agreed it was best that you not continue. I'll stand by that decision as the right one.
