Was just wondering if anyone had done a triathlon sponsored by irongirl? I'm doing Vegas in April and am just wondering what to expect in terms of support, organization, etc. Any input would be great. Thanks.

You should expect a wonderfully organized supported race!  The Irongirl races are amazing.  I have raced two different locations.  Women's sized shirts, green goodie bags, nice expos just for starters.  They are part of the Ironman series now so the drink on course will be the new Ironman Endurance drink.  Depending on distance, they will have several aid stations.  We were handed small towels at the end of our swim to dry off.  Nice medals at the finish along with plenty of drinks and immediate time results.  The breakfast is amazing.  Ours at Racine had tables with flowers and a beautiful buffet with all kinds of foods.  This is truly an amazing series!!!  Can't wait til July when I get to race Irongirl Racine again!

Yep, they are very well run and very organized. They are especially welcoming for first timers.

I loved Irongirl!! The expo had a ton of free stuff. More free stuff than any other tri I've done. I'll definitely do it again.

I'm so glad to hear that! The danskin tri was well organized but with so many people, still a little crazy. I've heard good things about Racine as well, I think we'll put that on our list! A more specific question, Danskin had angels who went in the water to help people who panic. And I had to make use of one in Seattle. Since then I've been working on my swim, but does irongirl offer the same type of support? I know they have kayak's etc. in the water, just wondering if they follow what danskin has been doing?

my first (and only, so far) tri was IronGirl Columbia, MD.  It was kind of crowded, but very well organized, and a TON of fun!  I absolutely loved it.

I don't have anything to compare them to, but as a first-time-tri'er, it was definitely a good race!

They had something similar to this in the OWS practice.  I'm not sure if they did during the actual race.

I'm really happy to hear the positive reviews of the Irongirl series. There is a sprint tri in New Orleans in May that I was considering doing, looks like I need to add it to my list of events to sign up for when I get some money. Haha.

If you haven't signed up for Irongirl yet, google to see if there are any discounts out there. I did that last year and saved $25! Now I do that whenever I buy anything--I've found lots of coupons.

I agree with everyone else. Great event! Very well organized and run. I did Iron Girl Vegas last year. It was my 1st tri. And I'm looking forward to doing it again this year.

ohhh, I can chime in here as well. I've done the Bloomington (Minnesota) Irongirl Duathlon for the past 4 years. Simply the BEST!! SUPER friendly and organized. Great food. WONDERFUL support for ALL athletes. My FAVORITE event of the year!

I did Irongirl Tahoe.  Agree with everyone else--it was well organized, everyone was nice, great for first-timers.  Might not be a great choice if you're super competitive...I noticed lots of newbies who rode side by side or didn't understand passing rules.  No biggie in this event, but something to consider.  If you're a newbie, definitely a great introduction into tris...also good if you're super mellow.  That said, there were some super fast ladies out there.

I was interested in IronGirl Atlanta, but haven't had much OWS practice. I respect the water too much to go in unprepared, but it's nice to know there are kayaks & such to help out the swimmers if they need it. Especially if there are a lot of newbies!

To answer the Angels question.... they didn't have people who were there exactly for that; however, the swim at Racine makes it possible to touch ground at all times if you are closer to shore and there were lifeguards standing along the course with lifeguard tubes who were there for people to grab onto if they needed.  Just remember you can't make forward progress with their help or you are DNF'ed.  We had some pretty decent rollers last year at Racine but most people went without wetsuits because the distance is so short.  I am so excited to be doing it again!  Already signed up.
