Pre-race routine:

I got there the day before and spent the night at the Comfort Inn (I think. this report is 5 months late so I kinda forget) which I wasn't going to do but I had no idea that it would take so long to drive to Cobourg. After checking in I went for a drive to check out the bike course which I heard had a few hills,, lol, and boy did it ever have a few hills. The whole course is up and down, up and down aside from a couple km's in town.
Fast forward to the next morning and I wake up tired. I did not have a good sleep for a couple reasons. One being the kids in the room next to me, second reason being I knew I could do well in this race. My training was going great and I do well when it comes to hills. My one concern was my new Cervelo P2. I'd only had it two weeks and had yet to be fitted on it so I wasn't sure how the ride would go.
Event warmup:

Got there early to get a good spot in transition.

Stretch, run, stretch some more, drink water.
Run
  • 40m 40s
  • 10 kms
  • 04m 04s  min/km
Comments:

A new PB, 40:40. BUT it could have been faster. Around kilometer 7 my left hip started to feel, umm, tight I guess. I didn't think to much of it because it was slowing me down or causing any pain but I decided to ease off the last couple kilometers just in case.

If you're wondering this sereis does the long run first in the duathlons.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Transition 1
  • 00m 59s
Comments:

It took a few seconds to get my shoe clipped in. I put my shoes on in transition.
Bike
  • 1h 14m 21s
  • 40 kms
  • 32.28 km/hr
Comments:

It was all hills and I loved every second of it. I was only passed by a handful of riders but more impotantly I passed one duathlete and caught up to another and I was positive that I could get third place by the end of the day.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Transition 2
  • 00m 41s
Run
  • 24m 12s
  • 5 kms
  • 04m 50s  min/km
Comments:

It all fell apart on me. A kilomter in and my left leg was in SO MUCH PAIN I almost gave up. I would run for a few minutes then I'd have to walk for twenty feet or so and that's how the whole run went. I knew top three was gone and I started to think that I wouldn't even make a top ten.
I was so happy to cross the finish line and just lay on the ground. When the posted the results I was shocked. Thanks to my good first run and my good bike I had a big enough gap between myself and fith place that I was able to hold onto fourth.
What would you do differently?:

Not get injured
Post race
Warm down:

I sat on the grass and didn't ever want to get up.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

My leg.

Event comments:

I can't believe my 10k time was 40:40. At the beginning of the season I was lucky to crack 46 minutes. On top of that I was still able to do a 24 minute 5k and that includes walking a good portion of it.

P.S. This report comes five months late but better late then never. I'm still recovering from my leg injury which turned out to be my IT band.
