I got up this morning and drove about an hour to Chappell Hill Tx. My wife and I got up a little late and didnt start riding until 8:00. We saw Patrick
(Johnybutts
) after about 4 miles, he got there early and was on his return trip. We also saw a co-worker that is just getting into cycling
(this was his 4th ride
).
Chappell Hill is a small town in the hills
(duh
), the ride is a 40 mile there and back
(a small loop at the end
). The turn around is at Washinton on the Brazos Stae Park
(the birthplace of Texas
). It is a very hard full of hills 40 mile ride. We did it in 2hr 20 min with an avg of over 17 MPH. I alwasys joke that the first 20 miles is very hard, then the return trip is the same, well it is true. I forgot how difficult of a ride this is. I did get a 37.5 mph downhill, and a few single digit uphills. My wife rode very well too.
I talked to my co-worker about doing this ride, but said it might be a good idea to get some other rides in first, so I was surprised to see him out there. At first he was going to ride with us, but it was clear he could not keep up. I tried to show him how to draft and said I would "pull" him, but he was not able to even maintain a 12 mph avg
(remember, this is a very hard ride
). so we left him after about 6 or seven miles. when we finished, we drove back to find him and give him a ride back, but he refused and finished, very slowly, but he did it.
We whent to the Chappell Hill Sausage Company and had a great lunch. I had the biggest turkey sandwich you could think of
(barely fit in my mouth
), wife had an equaly big chicken salad sandwich. We brought a buncch of fresh made sausage home.
