Subject: What are you reading?
Right now, besides my textbooks, I'm involved with two book clubs. (I know, crazy huh? The online club only reads one book every two months.)

I just finished the Brief and Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao, by Junot Díaz. Interesting. I'm not sure how I feel about it yet. I'm still processing it.

Just starting In the Woods, by Tana French. I'm only 1 page in, but already I think I'm going to like her writing style.

On my to-read stack:
- Good Omens
- Game of Thrones (re-reading before the HBO series begins in April)
- The Postmistress

What are you reading?

What did you think of the trilogy? I only read the first book, and only kinda liked it.

I really liked The Kite Runner. I have A Thousand Splendid Suns on my wish list at the library.

I read Into Thin Air a few years ago. Very gripping.

The "latest" book? Are there going to be more? Please don't tell me George RR Martin is going to keep writing them? He needs to work on his own books. *grumble*

In the car, audio book, From a Buick 8 I found a cache of Stephen King audio books in the public library sale and am working my way through them.

Reading, reading: The Red Pyramid Rick Riordan. It's a neat adventure book.

Up next, the new Clive Cussler novel.

Actually, it's Brandon Sanderson who's finishing the series after RJ's outlined script. 1 book left, then the series is complete.

I was VERY doubtful Brandon S. would do a good job, but i'm surprised to say that i think the last 2 books are among the best 5 in the series.

Into Thin Air was really good, made me want to NEVER climb a mountain of that caliber. I am sadly reading, for the first time, The Great Gatsby. A friend got a copy for Christmas but had read it and said he was going to sell it. It's a nice leatherbound copy so I asked to borrow it since I skipped out on reading it when I was a youngster. Maybe I'll go on a `classics' kick and read some of the books that everybody else read in high school.

PRofessionally, reading "Educating Esme" for fun, "Radiance."  What can I say, I teach high school English and I want to know what my students are reading.  I've also read "Tweak" and I have the father's version of it (that I haven't started yet), "Beautiful Boy."  Those two are about a son who goes from top of his class to the bottom with a meth addiction.  Tweak is his story and Beautiful Boy is the father's story.

Re-Reading the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy series....Douglas Adams is nothing short of brilliant when it comes to dry wit.  An author we lost too soon.

Just finished:  A Short History of Nearly Everything by Bill Bryson  (A re-read.  I find Bryson very re-readable - I've read his hilarious A Walk in the Woods twice as well)

Reading:  The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot

On Deck:  A Game of Thrones (A re-read for the upcoming HBO series)

I'm reading 127 Hours which is pretty intense. The guy is about to cut his arm off.  After this, I think I need a more uplifting book.  Any ideas?

I have that book, but it's called `Rock and a Hard Place' I think. Did they come out with a new version?

It drags a bit, I'll admit, but you really should keep reading. The ending is awesome.

I usually read more "intellectual" stuff, I swear.  But I needed a break from all the novels where everyone gets raped and abuses drugs.  I'm reading "Twenties Girl" by the genius that brought us all "Shopaholic," Sophie Kinsella.

Next on the list is "Everything Bad is Good for You," which was recommended by a speaker at my school a few months ago, about how our technology and information obsession has made us smarter, in ways.  Interesting stuff.

Good omens is one of my all-time favorite books ever.

I am re-reading the last few books in The Hollows series, in prep for the new one coming out in a couple weeks. Also reading the latest set in The Walking Dead anthologies.

I just got done with Two girls, fat and thin by Mary Gaitskill, philosophical, purient, well-written, and very insightful into character and circumstance. It's a remarkable book.

Getting started on Skippy dies by Paul Murray, I am not far enough into it to draw any conclusions, but the opening scene involves death and doughnuts, so it shows promise.

On a completely different note, I am comparing two translations of Sun Tzu

The complete art of war / Sun-tzu, Sun Pin ; translated, with historical introduction and commentary, by Ralph D. Sawyer ; with the collaboration of Mei-chün Lee Sawyer,
And
The art of war. Translated and with an introd. by Samuel B. Griffith.  With a foreword by B. H. Liddell Hart.

Just finished "Once a Runner" and "Again to Carthage" by John L Parker Jr. Great, motivating reads.

Just started "The Art of Racing in the Rain" by Garth Stein. Great book by all reports. So far so good.

Also, as far as the question about the Dragon Tattoo series. I did not love the first book but could not put down the second one. Once you have read the second you need to read the third. In fact I would advise that you have the third on hand so you can start reading the moment you finish the second book.

Right now I am reading I Still Dream About You by Fannie Flag and am VERY disappointed so far which bums me out. I got a Kindle for Christmas and with the kids don't get much time to read so it's going to take me forever to get through this book so I can get another.
