Pre-race routine:

Woke up around 5:00am and ate a banana right when I got up, ate another one at 6. Sipped some water, but didn't wanna over drink, either. Took everyone to Jack in the Crack to get them breakfast and headed out to the casino.
Event warmup:

Kinda did some light jogging around the parking lot, nothing too exciting.

Comments:

Good run, felt my effort was good and I definately felt stronger as the race went on.
What would you do differently?:

Probably would run 145-150 to the turnaround after the 1st 2 miles, next time. It was a bit conservative to stay at my target aerobic hr for the 1st 1/2, but it's better to be safe than sorry. I had alot left in the tank, I felt, when I was done. Maybe not ALOT, but definately more than I should of...Other than that, I felt hydration and decisions were not bad at all for this being my 1st 1/2 mary!
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around for awhile then went and got a sweet massage, I reallly needed it!! Best massage I've ever had in my life!!!! Ate plenty of fruit and drank plenty of water.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

BASE, BASE, AND MORE BASE, BABY!!!!

Event comments:

This race had THE BEST expo I've ever been to. Had plenty for the whole family. My son ran a 5k and was getting ribbons and my daughter ran 2 miles and got ribbons. They had "Dr. Lubb Dubb" there, and he was handing out the ribbons and had a course set up for the kids to run and get sticks. 16 stix was a mile. Alot of the booths set up were very aducational. One of the booths had a display set up with numerous popular drinks with a bag of sugar to visually show how much sugar was in each of them. Had a jumping castle and many other games for the kids. My kids said they had a great time today!!! This was leaps and bounds better than last year, and this is only the 2nd year of the race. I would recommend this race to everyone. Not to crowded or anything. I talked to one of the event organizers and he said it was up about 100 contestants from the 1st year and hopefully it will keep growing! I'm sure it will.

Avg hr-150 peak hr-178 min hr-77. 1/2 time was 1:04:37. I kept it at my target aerobic rate of 140 to the 1/2 way point. Then the next few miles I stayed about 150-155, miles 9-10, tried to keep it up to 160 and kinda settled in around 158. With the last 5k to go, I got it up around 175 and told myself I wasn't letting it fall below that. Pace to the turn around was 9:52, pace on the way back was 8:54. Avg pace for the race was 9:23. That is a 4:37 negative split.
Course: Out and back leaving the Cocopah Casino thru the town of Somerton and back.

Nice run!  Way to run a controlled race and negative split that thing.
