I am in lower Manhattan, don't have gym membership w/pool b/c there's a gym in our building, but no pool.  Did I mention I hate pools?  I just moved here from living on a Lake in Maine- uhg!

what to do? Haven't been in water since SEPT.  Season opener sprint tri on MAY 1.....

wish my bathtub was bigger!

whats the LEAST amount of swim training I can do and still be OK for race?  (i'm a very comfortable swimmer in open water- just decidedly out of shape!)

I usually finish just behind FOP in sprint races (for the swim).  never was on a swim team, but grew up in a lake and can happily swim (when in decent cardio shape) for at least 1.5 miles in open water.  About 1hr was my average swim workout time last year (when i could wake up, take 20 steps and jump off the dock).

(p.s. I am aiming to finish overall MOP at best.  I am an abysmal runner -bad knees)

Dry-land swimming.  Get some stretch cords and go.  At least as boring as the trainer and the treadmill, but it would help.

Post in the NY state thread and ask if anyone know of a pool you pay per use in your part of Manhattan. Some areas have punch cards or $1-3 per use fees at some pools you may not know about.

You swim well but you will set up your bike and run better if you swim a bit before the race.

As Jorge said, there are lots of good examples.  I'm no expert, but I like this one:

This. I have a gym membership at a gym without a pool (I work at a university and the gym membership there is ridiculously cheap), but the local Y gym/pool has casual entry and that's where I do all my swimming

If you are just trying to finish the swim comfortably, with your background you could get away with once a week. In the alternative if your overall fitness is good, you could do 3X a week for 3 weeks. Just work on your form and don't worry about speed.
