Derby Festival posted new routes for mini and full today.  Both start and end downtown.  The hills of Iroquois Park have been eliminated for half.

I like the route.  The logistics of getting to park for start and meeting family at finish always adds extra stress on race day.

Wow, no hills at all.  Looks like the biggest climb will be out of the two tunnels at Churchill Downs.  Seems odd though because Iroquois Park has always been part of it.  Either way, I like it too.

Tyler is planning to run as well so he will be happy to hear they eliminated the hills.

Don't forget the hills on Central Ave and Eastern Pkwy overpasses.  The route takes a loop around Cardinal Stadium.  No comparison to Iroquois Park though.

I cant say I'm disappointed. I didnt do the race last year with the modified route, so I cant really comment on how the hills were earlier in the race. But, I am happy about the start/finish being close together. Does anyone have an idea of the best parking places now? The only downfall will be the mass of people in one place as opposed to some people parking near the start and some near the finish.

Has anybody else seen the Derby Festival Marathon Facebook page.  There are a lot of p1$$sed off runners.

I did the full last year. First one. BRUTAL. I have done the half multiple times. I can honestly say that I am fine with leaving Iroquois park out. Although it will be hard to compare my time this year to that of the last couple of years to gauge my fitness.

The real runners think this is a travesty. Flat and boring. But if that is what you want then this is your mini. I do like the start and finish in the same area though. I have always looked at the mini as a challenging mini, but not anymore. Flat and like so many others. Oh well. Never have liked the in and out of Churchill. Kind of weird. My 2 cents. Looking for other spring minis to train on.

Maybe worth another thread - but have you consider the "Run the Bluegrass" in Lexington?  Happened to fall perfectly in my marathon training schedule, so I signed up.  For me, if it's going to be a "training race", I'd rather it not be of the 10,000+ runners variety.
