Subject: Some encouragement please?
Hey, I'm into week 13 of a 20 week training program for my third sprint tri in April. Last year I trained for 7 weeks following a plan I made up for myself. This time I'm using a proper program I found in a book. I've never done any speed work until now, and I've never done the volume I'm doing before now either... I'm feeling a bit emotionally tired (of training!)

So, what I think would be really helpful to me right now, is for someone to have a look at my logs and say some kind things to keep my motivation high and help me refocus.

I know this is a bit of a pathetic request... but I thrive on positive feedback!!

Thanks everyone. If there's any other people out there in the same situation, speak up!

Are you running and riding the same routes? Maybe going from road to trail might help -- keep the time the same but change the terrain.

I vary the routes a bit for my runs and rides. I'm not getting bored - just sorta worn out thinking and living as a triathlete I guess.

Wow---looks like you are putting in some good time/distance---especially training for a sprint!!!  Just keep in mind that all this training is hard so that race day will seem easy!!!  You are on the right track---keep at it!

You are doing great on your training! This sprint will be a walk in the park!

Just for a change of pace, pick a direction and just ride or run there.  Then have someone pick you up a hour or longer down the road. For my long rides, I will race my wife to say mile 50 or so sometimes, the out and backs can be boring after awhile. For my 100 miler, I plan to ride to space museum that is about 1 1/2 in the car.  I'll met my wife on the way, take a quick roade shower (shampoo and enough water) to feel refreshed.

Man, now I need some encouragement after reading your training log.

You are way faster than me. Some of your "nice, slow, easy" stuff would be absolute breakneck speed for me.

You're definitely training hard for a sprint! If the April tri you're talking about is the Mission Bay People's Tri (I don't know any others in April), I'm doing a 16 week training program to do the Oly at that one. Your swim volume is especially impressive, think you almost doubled what I did in January. Looks like you have good bike pace too, I suspect you'll probably place pretty well in your AG (although your logs don't show run pace).

Are you doing any other races before then? That's something I've found helps with motivation and breaking up the routine, I have planned/done a number of smaller events, from OWS races (summerswim.co.nz), 5k runs, and have considered some of the various swim-run events (there's some in Pt Chev, some around Tamaki Drive and some held at Takapuna beach)

WOW! Thanks so much everybody! I feel buzzed now - which was what I was hoping you'd all do for me.

I'm actually following an Olympic distance Intermediate training program because it was recommended to be advantageous to get this volume in.

It would be REALLY wonderful if my sprint tri was a walk in the park! There're some wicked as hills on the bike leg... but, at least I'll be WAY fitter this year. My goal is to knock 5mins from last years time, hopefully gaining me a place in the top three. Missed out getting 3rd by a sad 2mins last year.

Hey thanks again everyone! If you need some nice words to help you along, don't be shy in asking. It's great to have support.
